View Full Version : Democrats Lead Midterm Polling Following SCOTUS Decision on Abortion

For much of the midterm season, Democrats had lagged behind Republicans in generic ballot polling. Much of this shift against Democrats can be attributed to global inflation, lack of action on much of President Biden’s Build Back Better campaign promises, and the ever-declining standard of living.
However, following the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned a half-century precedent established in Roe v. Wade, Democrats began leading Republicans in generic ballot polling.
In a poll conducted by NPR/Marist, Democrats now lead Republicans 48% to 41%. In a Morning Consult poll, Democrats lead Republicans, 45% to 42%. And in a poll conducted by Yahoo/YouGov, Democrats lead Republicans, 45% to 38%.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FWg-Sn-XgAEj8_l.jpg
This change in attitude is consistent with polling on the issue of abortion, a majority of Americans consistently approve of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and abortion access. As well as the Supreme Court’s abysmal 25% approval rating, which is a historic-low for the court.
Historically, the incumbent president’s party is often defeated in the midterm elections, so Democrats already face an uphill battle.
Democrats will not only need to defend every Senate seat up for re-election, but they will also need to flip at least two Republican seats to overcome the Sinema-Manchin roadblock. Meanwhile in the House, Democrats will have to defend every seat they currently hold, since they only maintain a slight lead over House Republicans.
Democrats have an opportunity to channel the American people’s anger and frustration in the upcoming midterms, but first they’ll have to convince voters to give the party one more chance to deliver substantial change.

The point i am trying to make is... Moderates on both sides are closer to each other than they are to the extreme wackos in their respective party.

You would think the Repugs would be ecstatic that they finally won and overturned Roe.
You would think this would be a hugely popular issue they could cruise to mid- term victories with.
Yet McConnell is telling Repugs not to even mention the Supreme Court ruling.
Even the turtle knows they are doomed.

Let's see if that holds up months from now when the baby killers' zeal tames down and gas prices are still ass fukking us good...I still think Dems will lose big, not enough pink haired mentally ill man haters to turn the mid terms around. Those moderate GOPers in these polls will eventually go back to Republican candidates. Honestly, the Democrats richly deserve to get their asses handed to them and supporting abortion won't save them.

Gas prices falling into $3 range everywhere. Right in time for mid terms. It's a conspiracy :lol
The big one will be this month's coming inflation rate.
Abortion is a failure on our SCOTUS system. Even Republicans lean pro-choice but we put religious zealots in charge of our laws. The system needs to change. These people shouldn't be serving life terms.

Gas isn't falling everywhere and gas prices have been royally ****ing us for over a year now that people aren't somehow going to credit Dems with the lowering of gas to three dollars. :oldlol:

I actually didn't vote for him :confusedshrug:
I never liked Trump, like ever. I remember him from the 80s, I always thought of him as an elitist prick, his everyman makeover didn't convince me one iota. I will give practically any GOP candidate a chance over him. I will give credit to Trump for his anti abortion stance, even if it's a totally pandering stance since not long ago he was pro abortion.

Another "Ruh-oh"
The Fed rate hikes are finally achieving what they set out to achieve. Lenders are forced to drop rates because demand has plummeted. Which in turn means the Fed will likely stop their rate hikes, inflation will start to recover, and the stock market has bottomed out and will now start it's decent upward.
The gas price drops and mortgage drops will probably not be reflected in the coming July inflation rate so you guys better hope for something in the 9% range. Because after July? We are in full recovery.

Been hearing this shit from blade since the beginning of bidens presidency.

"Lack of demand" is the goal. Once the demand drops, the prices will follow. That's how supply and demand works. This is why recession fears exist because it's the only way the Fed knows how to fight inflation. They have raise rates, turn off the money hose, and hope that people stop spending so much money. All these covid millionaires have to be put in check.
We are finally seeing the rate hikes cool down the housing market. Demand has stopped. Housing prices should stop "inflating" now. Rent should stop inflating now.
July inflation might be in the neighborhood of 9% but that should be the ceiling. It's going to start dropping in August. Bookmark this if you want, If I'm wrong I'll own it. But if I'm right? You need to eat crow.

Did you even read this? It's just a tracker that makes predictions.
He said he would tell the public, “We fully understand and appreciate the pain people are going through dealing with higher inflation, that we have the tools to address that and the resolve to use them, and that we are committed to and will succeed in getting inflation down to 2%. The process is highly likely to involve some pain, but the worse pain would be from failing to address this high inflation and allowing it to become persistent.”
Whether that turns into recession is unknown. The National Bureau of Economic Research, the official arbiter of recessions and expansions, notes that two consecutive quarters of negative growth isn’t necessary for a recession to be declared.

YOU READ SLOWLY. It literally says that their technical definition of recession is TWO quarters in a row and that they "see" the second contracting 2.1%
Meaning by their own definition it hasn't come yet, they are just predicting it will :oldlol:

And that is me just completely ignoring the fact that we no longer define recessions that way. Which they go on to say in the article you linked. Unemployment needs to happen. Can't have a recession in the middle of record high jobs.

Being in the workforce it's really simple, and we've said it many times, there was a pandemic. People went back to their jobs. It was called "new" jobs in the statistics.
Explain to me how the price of everything doubles, yet we apparently somehow get more demand out of such a thing. Economics 101 me on that please.

We are not technically in a recession yet. However, we might be going into one soon. Fighting inflation with interest rate increases could send you into a recession if you push rate hikes too much. Sometimes you might have no choice if inflation is getting out of hand. I don't know whether this time will or not, but we will see soon.

so who do we believe?
really what it boils down to is whether or not the dems can keep whatever momentum they may have off of this and be able to hold on to it for five more months in the midst of inflation. what do i think? roe being overturned may save the dems from an absolute blowout, but they're still sure to lose the senate and maybe even the house.
not just because 'that's the way it goes' come midterms, but because even the dems know biden is an absolute disaster. when a sitting president's own party wants him out, you know it's real bad.
