Head-to-head in the playoffs:

42%: Bird's teams win % vs. Magic's Lakers

H2H in all regular-season games:

39%: Bird's teams win % vs. Magic's Lakers

Magic and his teams basically owned Bird and his teams during the time they spent together in the NBA.

It basically took a complete fluke for Bird and the Celtics to win in 1984.

As Worthy's unforced turnover in game 2 when the Lakers would have basically wrapped the series up had they won.

Basically cost Magic and LA from being 3 and 0 against Bird and the Celtics in the finals.

Showtime most likely nowdays would be viewed as the Goat dynasty had they won in 1984 to go along with their other titles.

Magic was the better tennis player.

OP‘s usually a good poster, but like what was already said, I’ll never understand why fans evaluate basketball like it’s golf or tennis.

And this coming from a Wilt stan, who was dominated more by one player than anybody else in history, is quite ironic.

They were 1-1 against each other when they had similar teams in terms of talent. In '87 the Lakers had a huge edge in talent if you factor in the Celtics injuries that year.

Magic's teams dominated Bird's? You could have fooled me. The record is actually pretty underwhelming. One would expect an even more lopsided record considering Kareem played with Magic.

Steph and KD dominated LeBron more than Magic and Kareem dominated Bird.

It then follows that

Steph and KD > Magic and Kareem

or

Bird > LeBron

or both of the above.

Lakers where better than the Celtics if you take out Bird or Magic out of the equation. Lakers could play a fast break game which the Celtics couldn't as much. It was only cause of Birds toughness that they beat them in 84.

For all the talk you hear about the Celtics big 3, the lakers were a more talented team. switch Magic and Bird and the lakers win at least 5 maybe 6 in a row. Magic doesn't win shit between 1980 and 1986. I'm fairly sure the Lakers in 1980 win 72 or 73 games with KAJ and Bird.

Bird vs Magic & Kareem

Aside from Bird, the Celtics had no one on Kareem's level

It was actually Bird vs Kareem... Magic was the 1c (because Worthy was actually the scoring leader in 87' & 88')

You really are the most uneducated person on the forum. Magic outscored Kareem in both ‘87 & ‘88 ya fckin doofus :lol Kareem was putting up legit role player production by ‘88.

If those Cs only had a reliable 2nd option like pippen bt, then maybe they would have won more titles than the lakers during that period.

When you have two of the ten greatest players of all-time an MVP and another HOFer the Showtime Lakers actually underperformed in my eyes

McHale was 26/10 while Kareem was 17/7

Parish was comparable to Kareem by that stage as well

Throughout their basketball careers, in head to head Finals competition, Bird only beat Magic ONCE. #factsarefun
