When people talk about influential players (especially this previous decade), RUSSELL WESTBROOK's names never gets mentioned. It always gets mentioned in some negative fashion.

WESTBROOK literally changed the culture of the Triple Double. However you look at it, WESTBROOK is responsible for the Triple Double outburst we see today.

6 Rondo - 2012
5 Rondo - 2013
5 L. Stephenson - 2014
11 WESTBROOK - 2015
18 WESTBROOK - 2016
42 WESTBROOK - 2017
25 WESTBROOK - 2018
34 WESTBROOK - 2019
17 Luka - 2020
38 WESTBROOK - 2021
19 Jokic - 2022

You're giving WESTBROOK too much credit. Triple doubles and all numbers in general started trending upwards, regardless of WESTBROOK's statsheet.

Westbrook was the reason it started to trend upwards. The numbers speak for themselves.

No he isn't. The reason triple doubles became more prevalent is because of pace and freedom of movement. Russ had no influence and this thread is ridiculous.

There being faster pace, a greater emphasis on kicking out instead of finishing drives, and “bigs” being tall wings who float around outside makes for more triple doubles because it makes it easier to generate assists and grab rebounds. Westbrook didn’t change the game he took advantage of the changes. Houston played him at center a few times.

Think that happens in 1994?

Stylistic changes in the game along with how games have been officiated has obviously inflated stats but at the same time op has a point. Russ was the guy who did it the most and set the new bar. When someone sets a new bar it gets other people realizing new possibilities and motivates them to match it or better.

He singlehandedly devalued triple doubles. I will respect him forever for that reason.

Lance was a player that was always better than his numbers. I rated him at his best.

I remember when he was putting up big numbers that year, I was in a fantasy basketball league with friends around that time and always saw that Stephenson's stat line was or close to a triple double.

Another interesting stat. Lance Stephenson only has 5 Triple Double's in his entire career, all in that one season.

2 words..... rule changes. All of a sudden , everyone and their mother learned how to have triple doubles. Even role players.

With all due respect for op, people like you are the reason they (Nba) continue to make these subtle tweaks to inflate shinny stats and casuals eat it up and really believe they are witnessing the greatest era ever

The reason they wanted russ to get rebounds was not for stats, it was to push the pace even faster, less people touch the ball the faster the fastbreak.

Man Westbrook was still putting up numbers the year prior to his stint with the lakers. Goes to show what playing with LeCancer does for your career.
