Why do Branvestites try so hard to dig up obscure facts and stats to prove he's in the top 2? Only reason Russell isn't in it is because there were only like 8-10 teams playing at the time.

Enough is enough. It's over. He's not getting in. That ship has sailed so get on with your lives.

For me, FMVP is the #1 criteria. It represents the pinnacle of achievement.

Not the only criteria of course, but the primary one.

I agree with OP. The GOAT ship for Bronie sailed a long time ago. Circa 2011.

I dealt with this issue on here over 10 years ago.

OP steaming so much, he just came up with a criteria that makes Bob McAdoo better than Dirk Nowitzki.

Ok, let's say that's the criteria, and leave out Russell & Wilt since OP discredited their era

Kareem: 12
Jordan: 11
LeBron: 8
Magic: 8
Duncan: 7
Bird: 6
Curry: 6
Kobe: 6
Shaq: 5
Moses: 4

jordon extremist alts try over and over again, but they cannot find a set criteria that makes jordon GOAT without it backfiring on them.
The closest they can get is amount of scoring titles. Which is fitting for someone who couldn't do anything else but score:

Russell would’ve lapped the field had the award existed in his day. He would’ve probably won, at minimum, like 7 FMVP’s. But it’s obviously an imperfect method, considering by this criteria someone like Hondo would leapfrog to 6th.

He doesnt have any. Also no one from 1985 going forward could only win 2 series to win a title like Russell did and get a bye. So it balances out.

Russell = 0 finals MVP's

:facepalm

Jayson Tatum has more conference finals MVPs than jordon.

In fighting you have a thing called the pound for pound list. Because boxers/MMA fighters are defined by weight classes those boxers/MMA fighters are then ranked based on how perform based in their division and against other fighters in other divisions. Jon Jones, GSP, Fedor...all fought at different weight classes but they are considered the GOAT class because they were the best for the longest period of time in definable eras.

So for me the main metric in rankings is were the best player of your era and how long was your era.

Jordan > Hakeem
Wilt > Bill
Lebron > Kobe
Bird > Magic
Kareem > Dr. J
Mikan > Schayes
Kobe > Duncan
Curry > Durant
Pettit > Havlicek
Dirk > KG
Stockton > Isiah Thomas
Barkley > Malone
Shaq > Robinson

George Mikan for example was clearly the best player of his generation by the widest margin which is why he should be in peoples top ten/twenty lists. Shaq on the other hand who people put in the top ten...was only really slightly better than David Robinson and arguably weaker than Kobe/Duncan/Hakeem. It's not a perfect measurement because you have guys like Jerry West and Oscar Robertson who really you could make an argument either way. But to me historical perspective is the most important things...you're always going to have to award a champion and MVP how does that title hold up over history.
