According to this YouTuber, considering MVP is a regular season award, he only took into account the player's performance and perceived contribution to his team's success during the regular season. What he did in the playoffs was not factored into this at all.

I disagree with several of these, but at least he does provide his rationale for selecting them and doesn't omit the pre-merger eras. The fact that he didn't include either of Moses Malone's MVP seasons or Hakeem's 1994 MVP season in his honorable mention while including 2004 KG and 2017 Westbrook makes me question his understanding of the game. But, hey... What do I know?

10.Larry Bird- 1985
9. Oscar Robertson- 1964
8. LeBron James- 2013
7. Shaquille O'Neal- 2000
6. Wilt Chamberlain- 1966
5. Michael Jordan- 1996
4. Kareem Abdul- Jabbar- 1972
3. Wilt Chamberlain- 1967
2. Stephen Curry- 2016
1. Michael Jordan- 1988

I feel like it's almost impossible to narrow down the top 10 MVP seasons, let alone rank them. How would you even begin to compare Russell & Wilt's MVP seasons with Curry & Giannis? If I was forced to pick 10, I guess I'd go, not in order

1. 1967 Wilt
2. 1972 Kareem
3. 1988 Jordan
4. 1994 Hakeem
5. 1995 Robinson
6. 2000 Shaq
7. 2004 KG
8. 2013 LeBron
9. 2014 KD
10. 2016 Curry

But you could obviously put so many other players on that list, Bird, Magic, Oscar etc.

2012-13 LeBron has the GOAT MVP season, and has beaten the player with the second greatest MVP season as the finals MVP while leading both teams in all categories.

No 1993 Barkley? One of the best seasons of all time. He even deserved the 1990 MVP more than the 1993 MVP.

Anything that doesn't have Curry in 1st for the 73 win Unanimous MVP season is on something.

Rank it by votes. It is the only way

2016 Curry unanimous
2013 LeBron 1 vote off
2001 Shaq 1 vote off

Then everyone else.

1967 Wilt is the best Mvp season of all-time

To basically average 24/24/8/9 on 68 percent shooting is insane.

Another fun fact is that in 1967 Wilt Chamberlain become the first player in NBA history to shoot over 54% from the field, by shooting 68%.

If you convert it to TS% no one had a TS% over .600 and Wilt shot .637.

Because he didn't deserve MVP over Wade or Kobe.

Because he didn't deserve MVP over Wade or Kobe.

Lebron basically led one of the least talented teams of all-time to 66 wins which is two and three wins off from other legendary teams such as the 1972 lakers and 1967 76ers.

He so deserved to win that Mvp over Wade and Kobe especially when you factor in Lebron's defensive dominance.

Because he didn't deserve MVP over Wade or Kobe.

Stats:
28-8-7, .591 TS%, 9.3 RAPM (1st)

31.7 PER (4th all-time), .318 WS/48 (6th all-time)

LeBron led his team in points, assists, rebounds, blocks, and steals becoming only the 4th player in history at the time to accomplish that feat.

Team Success:
66-16 (.805)
+8.68 SRS (8.83 when LeBron played.
112.4 Offensive Rating
102.4 Defensive Rating
+10.0 efficiency differential (4th in NBA history)

On court: +15.0
Off court: -6.2 off court
Net: +21.2 plus/minus

From 08-10, LeBron missed 14 games. Here are the results:

With: .737 win% +5.81 MOV

Without: 1-13 (.071 win%) (-7.68 MOV)

Difference: .666 win%, +13.67 MOV

Defense:

On court: 100.6 D rating (-7.7 relative to league average)

Off court: 108.8 D rating (+0.5 rel to LA)

Difference: -8.2

The Cavs went from #1 D in the league with LeBron on the court to the equivalent of 18th when he left.

Top 5 in on court defensive rating in 2009 (min. 2000 MP):
1. West: 99.2
2. LeBron 100.6
3. Odom 101.4
4. Turkoglu 101.4
5. Howard 101.8

LeBron was also 3rd in FG%, 4th in 3P%, and 3rd in eFG%.

Here is what some of the top SF of 2009 did vs LeBron offensively (their regular season per 36 in parenthesis)

Durant- 16.4 PPG, .518 TS% (23.3 PPG, .577 TS%)

Pierce- 18.1 PPG, .474 TS% (19.7 PPG, .582 TS%)

Johnson- 13.7 PPG, .475 TS% (19.5 PPG, .534 TS%)

Carmelo- 15.8 PPG, .488 TS% (23.8 PPG, .532 TS%)

Butler- 14.2 PPG, .438 TS% (19.4 PPG, .552 TS%)

Gay- 10.9 PPG, .357 TS% (18.3 PPG, .528 TS%)

Average dropoff: -5.8 PPG, -9.3 TS%

What’s amazing is that when faced Cleveland and LeBron was off the court, they dominated:

The 6 SF’s stats when (Per 36):
LeBron on court: 15.1 PPG, .461 TS%, 3.3 Reb, 3.6 AST-3.4 TOV, -9.4 +/-

LeBron off court: 24.6 PPG, .596 TS%, 5.9 Reb, 2.3 AST-1.8 TOV, +0.9 +/-

That is a 9.5 points per 36 and 13.5 TS% difference

This is insane..

You could make an argument (with varying degrees of strength) for Wade or Kobe. Sometimes there is more than one deserving person and there is absolutely no argument whatsoever than Lebron wasn't one of them. Or even that he didn't have the strongest case.

I’m not sure what possible case Kobe has over LeBron in 09 if we’re only counting the regular season which is what the OP said.

No need to pretend whatsoever, considering it wasn't even the best season of 2001.

How are people arguing for Lebron's MVP 09 year? It was him and it wasn't remotely close either. I think one of his biggest faults is that he generally should have elevated his teams to higher 60s, and low 70s like some of the other greats, but he led his team to 67 with a mediocre record. That's easy one of the best MVP seasons in the last 20 years.
