He was constantly double and triple teamed. He commanded defensive attention in a way that Bronie never could. Hence the number of free throw attempts.

What made it obvious is the worse mj played, especially in the playoffs, the more fts he'd get. This is really noticeable from 96-98 where the majority of his fga are midrange jumpers yet he's going to the line 10+ times per game.
