Any other candidates?

What has he accomplished as a HC without LeBron?

"The worst coach of the year winner is the guy who used to coach my favorite team and player"

That's what this thread will be ad nauseam.

Have you been watching the NBA since 1962-63? Cuz that's the season they started giving the COTY award out.

He's a champion with a goat dynasty (Warriors)

They thought he was great, so they added him to their staff

He got the all-star duo of Lebron/Zydrunas to finally make the playoffs in 06' and immediately had top defenses.

He's a defensive coach that coached better defenses in Cleveland than the 1st three-peat Bulls - the Cavs' defense took the 08' Celtics to 7 games while Lebron wet the bed with 26 on 35% (Cavs had top 5 defenses in 07' and 09')

To be fair, Mike Brown didn't really win Coach Of the Year that season. LeBron did. Mike Brown merely accepted the award on LeBron's behalf.

Mike Brown > Phil Jackson

How’d Kobe do with Mike Brown btw?

Yes.

Byron Scott and Dwane Casey finish in the money, but Brown is the clear winner. Let's see if he can re-write his biography in Sac.

You've got a pretty good case for Doc Rivers

Mike Brown won because at that time people didn't fully appreciate how great LeBron was. The assumption was that Brown must've done something important for the Cavs to win 66 games. But we didn't know that Bron was about to go to 8 straight finals on 2 different teams and then go to LA and win there too with an average bloke like Vogel.

Brown's best fit is as an assistant, imo. I do think he is a good coach at that level.

Can someone explain to me why Hubie Brown won CotY in 2003 for the Grizzles when they went 28-41? Grant it, he took over when they fired the other coach after a 0-8 start and 28 wins was the franchise's best season up to that point, but I still don't get why they gave him the award. Out of kindness?
