View Full Version : Lebron hasn't won an MVP or made 1st-Team All-Defense since his 10th season

Lebron's career peaked during the 2012-'13 season as it was the last time he won league MVP and made 1st-Team All-Defensive, but since turning 30 has failed to win either of these two awards.
Borderline top 10 player.

MVP is a media driven award...the media didn't allow Jordan to overtake KAJ and the media refused to allow Lebron to overtake Jordan. If you were to rank the 10 worst MVP's ever given half came during Lebron's era.

This is a point I brought up in another thread. Lebron may have had greater longevity as an All-NBA player, but Jordan had the greater longevity as an All-Defensive and MVP caliber player.

2013 was the last year Lebron was the best player in the NBA.

That's pretty crazy to think about. Nearing a decade now.

His longevity is a scam because he has been coasting on defense and egregiously stat padding for many years at this point. It impresses the basketball reference nerds but the peeps who know ball know.

He won most of his chips without being near the best player in the league. Impressive

This is correct. He was the best player in the world in 2016. I think after 2013 (not I think but I know) he stopped pushing every second of every game in the regular season. Of course that's going to affect any regular season accolades.
But in the playoffs he was still the best performer and best player up until yea probably 2018 or so.

I suspect he stopped playing at 100% every single game because he ran out gas in the 2013 playoffs and it almost cost him.

jordon failed to make the All-NBA 3rd team, as well as failed to make the playoffs in his 14th season.
LeBron made the All-NBA 1st team, as well as win the championship and Finals MVP in his 18th season.

Jordan at the same age as your Lebron above;
1. Scoring champion
2. NBA Champion
3. MVP
4. 1st-Team All-NBA
5. 1st-Team All-Defensive
6. FMVP

All due to resting up for almost 2 full seasons.
LOL @ thinking MJ could produce what James did in his 18th season. He needed 19yrs to play 15 seasons and wasn't able to play more than 7 consecutive seasons without needing to quit and rest
yikes!!

And he should've multiple times. Meanwhile Jokic wins MVP for a 40-some win season. Outrageous.
The All-Defensive team voting switched around 2014 and once the vote went from head coaches to the media LeBron stopped making those teams even though his defense remained the same, and even improved greatly in certain seasons.

LeBron coasts. Everyone except MJ stans acknowledges this.
But anyway, LeBron has been in MVP talks in 2 of the last 3 seasons but gotten injured despite the coasting. I was almost certain he would end up MVP after completing obliterating Giannis and then Kawhi that one year. He was on a rampage.

It's obvious he coasts on defense. Which is also partly why his longevity is overrated.

You got this backwards, everyone knows he coasts EXCEPT Lebronstans. You guys have been making excuses for him for years. His lack of effort, as shown by the Kuzma push, is why he hasn't made 1st-Team All-Defense since turning 30.

It's because people have picked up that you're prone to react so you get trolled.
Lebron coasts like all older players. He may not take time off to load manage like others but he makes up for it by coasting even harder. He has a minimax approach which I don't mind. It keeps him healthy.
I'm not sure when he started strategically coasting but he took it to another level starting in 17-18. He started putting very little effort on D and it was a net gain because the offensive boost more than made up for it at the time. Now is it still a net gain to this day? Hard to say. But while it may have helped the team it needs to be acknowledged that since at least then his offensive numbers have been inflated. This is on top of the offensive inflation due to the era he's playing in.

It’s not a shit era like the 70’s, 80’s, or even late 90’s.
There were demons that hit their prime by the mid-10’s. And I mean LeBron did get old. His peak was actually 2009 or 2010. All downhill since.

Yeah it's funny, because the Bronies arguments are all about longevity, but Jordan was the clear-cut best player in the league for many more years than Lebron was.
The truth hurts. Bronie's fringe top ten.

If the media had been voting on they all defensive team prior to 2014, Kobe wouldn't have 9 first team defensive selections either.

yet has went to the finals 5 times since his 10th season. winning two championships, two fmvps, and has been arguably the best player in the lg every one of those seasons. kind of shows you how much awards voted on by others can be overrated. also controlled to fit the narrative they believe.

Op doesn't realize in those 10 seasons he has 6 top 4 mvp voting finishes. 5 of those seasons being a top 3 finish, 3 of those 5 a runner up. And although he didn't make 1st team all d, got dpoy votes in like 2 or 3 of those 10 years lol.

Lebron has been on a steady and rapid decline since 2013. I wouldn’t be surprised if he were playing in China and living in a yurt in Inner Mongolia around this time next year.
