I never quite got the universal healthcare argument.

First of all, are most people just sicker than I realize? I can count on 2 hands the number of times of been to the doctor in the past 20 years. When I've gone for minor ailments, I've paid a small copayment (usually $25-$50) and that's it.

You want good health insurance? Find a good job that provides it. Universal healthcare largely just helps goldbricking freeloaders.

And yes, a major illness/injury could happen at any time, but all things considered I'd rather keep the extra money in my paycheck.

And also yes, healthcare is a more pressing issue for older people who visit the doctor more frequently, but they have access to Medicaid. My parents who are seniors have Medicaid and it pays for everything.

You're free to move to one of those other countries though if you wanna trade 70% of your earnings for "free" healthcare.

insurance companies are nothing but a pointless middle-man that exist solely to NOT get people care. the more they deny, the more they make. what type of shit is that? besides that, even if you HAVE coverage, there's no guarantee you'll get covered.

it's personal for me due to a family member putting of going to the doctor time and time again because they didn't want to face the cost they'd incur. by the time it became clear how serious it was, they hid their illness because they didn't want to burden their family with debt. it's just a perfect example of what's wrong with our system.

it's amazing how universal hc in this country is such a hot topic debate. with all of the billions & trillions that we already spend on endless wars, wall street bailouts, bloated military budgets, 'care' packages to ukraine (these things rarely ever get talked about, but when you bring up universal hc it's immediately "how ya gonna pay for it"???), yet we can't provide something as basic as hc to our people. not to mention the existing cost of it already.

that being said, there's of course no perfect system. a m4a system would have it's flaws, but it would save lives.
