Actually no. Paul Westhead was doing fast offense and tons of 3’s for his Loyola Marymount team in the late ‘80’s early 90’s. They beat a bunch of big programs by basically outrunning them, outshooting them on 3’s and tiring them out. Then at the NBA level Don Nelson and his Nellieball in the late 90’s, which at the time was thought of as crazy and a gimmick, did not play a traditional center. It played 3 guards, 2 forwards at a time when offenses were run through centers. He also basically invented the point forward poisition, which again was thought of as silly at the time, and his teams were run and gun, 3 point shooting teams. D’antoni just took what these guys had already done and bought it into thr 2000’s with better athletes/players.
