View Full Version : If jordon entered NBA in 1981 or 1989 he would've had 0 playoffs in his 1st 3 seasons

Instead he entered the league in the EXACT pocket of time where it was nearly impossible (only 28% chance!) to miss the playoffs in the eastern conference.

In the 1982-83 season and before that top 6 out of 11 teams from the eastern conference got a spot in the playoffs.
Between the 1983-84 and 1987-88 seasons top 8 out of 11 teams from the eastern conference (72% of the teams from the eastern conference!) got a spot in the playoffs.
In the 1988-89 season top 8 out of 12 teams from the eastern conference got a spot in the playoffs.
From the 1989-90 season and onwards top 8 out of 13 teams from the eastern conference got a spot in the playoffs.

Reminder of jordon's team's seedings in his first 3 seasons:

7th out of 11
8th out of 11
8th out of 11

Certain players get ridiculed for not being to advance from the 1st round.
If you followed NBA even casually in the 2000s, you couldn't escape this meme if your life depended on it:

Yet McGrady at least made the playoffs on legit, above-.500 records.
In jordon we have a player whose very existence in the playoffs in his first 3 seasons is due to a freak accident of his birth year and league expansion coinciding to his advantage so that it was nearly impossible for him to miss the playoffs. He was even more laughable than a meme like McGrady... Then along came Scottie.
