What do you think of a number retired league-wide?

Anything that's a 1st will always draw some controversy and this one is no different.

I like the idea as long as the player whose number is retired has done something noteworthy enough to warrant such honor. His contribution must be something so great that it transcends the sport and goes beyond just being popular or great on the court. Bill Russell is more than worthy of said honor.

I think it's a better honor to name trophy's/awards after players rather than retire numbers.
