We are going to create a playoff MVP award and start all the way from the shot clock until present day and award the playoff MVP for each postseason.

It's a much more informative award than the currently existing Finals MVP because it's for the entire playoffs.

Who wants to be a part of this?

We are going to give our picks and justify them like we did for the top 50 list and despite disagreements we came up with a great one.

Since Adam silver loves tinkering around with awards and format, he needs to change the finals mvp to playoffs mvp. Playoff mvp makes more sense than finals MVP. With finals mvp you can have a guy who does nothing much the whole season including the first three rounds, and then finally steps up in the finals and wins a career defining award as a result. Playoff mvp would be a more illustrious award

Suffice to say I’m guessing if you were to do this thread you would find most of your playoff mvps would be the same as the actual finals mvp. Maybe better to just make a thread listing the years where the finals mvp wasn’t the playoff mvp (15 warriors e.g.)

Well yes. A lot of years will be a foregone conclusion but a lot will be interesting to debate with several candidates.

Two thoughts

1. You should really just start from 1980. I just can’t imagine this project keeping posters attention or interest through the 60’s & 70’s.

2. We should only do seasons that are actually up for debate, which from 1980 on would be like 10-12 seasons at most. The stretch from ‘91-‘03 for example would be a legit waste of time.

1. Hmm. I'll start with 2022 and work backwards. I think the 70's are interesting because I think Kareem is the playoff MVP in a few years despite not winning the title. And in the 60's we've got Wilt/Russell and maybe others like West/Oscar in the mix some years too.

2. Threads that are unanimous will end quickly. No need to skip I think.

Not all, but MOST of the FMVPs would have won playoff MVP too. Although AD would have won playoff MVP in 2020.

I'd have to think about 2022...Curry wasn't great for the entire playoffs. But nobody immediately jumps to mind as a shoe-in for it.

Giannis would get it in 2021. Kawhi in 2019. Durant in '17 and '18.

Cool concept dude. But its just more fun to start from the bottom up. I agree on starting between 1976 and 1980
