Minneapolis teachers union contract states white teachers will be laid off or reassigned before educators of color if a reduction in staff is initiated, Alpha News reports.

The Star Tribune reports the “seniority-disrupting language” in the policy is rare among school districts across the nation, and at least one Constitutional law attorney has called the contract’s proviso a violation of the Constitution and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

But the move is billed as a way to retain teachers of color by those who support it.


How can this be even remotely legal and notice it's nowhere in the mainstream media. But if it had been black teachers laid off first it would be all over the news.

The future changes things and the people at the top always see those changes first. Kids en masse will soon be learning virtually/via the cloud etc. The role of the school teacher who stands at a blackboard and is brought a nice red apple by her best student is also donezo in 10 years max. Gone. This is basically a handy warning to anyone shrewd enough to read between the lines.

The next 10-20 years is going to see the eradication of a LOT of what we currently think of as “normal.” Society is about to start transforming at hyper speed.

Well this is really is spearheaded by white liberals. Blacks and latinos really were only striving for equal treatment and equal opportunity. They have that now. But white liberals want them to strive for equal equity which everyone knows cannot happen unless you discriminate against Asians and whites because they have more overachievers. While other big states are faltering academically , Florida is soaring in terms of school achievement. Florida has school vouchers for parents that want to put their children in private school(why should parents without children in public school help pay for it?). And DeSantis now wants to fastrack retired first responders with BAs to become teachers because they are more likely to focus on real life experiences and the curriculum rather than idealistic nonsense and social issues

I won't defend this. But I will say that there is a huge teacher shortage (hence the strike this was based on) right now and there are no teachers of any race at risk of being laid off any time soon. Also judging by the article it looks like it won't last long.

I will just assume it was written in because they probably have instances of black schools with white teachers which isn't ideal for black kids.

If those stats are legit, that is merely because they lack Black role models at home. I find it silly that Blacks need to see other Blacks in their immediacy just to be successful. Seems there's a racial component of mistrust of others engrained in them from childhood. Cause I can tell you this much, the same doesn't apply for any other race. Just this one.

Do children of East and Indian Asian immigrants have lots of role models apart from their family? I've never been to a school with a significant number of Asian teachers. How do they consistently destroy us American whites in school and make it to college with almost no teachers that look like them or even very many role models on TV?

I went to a private high school and in the middle of the school year an Iranian kid suddenly shows up as a new student. Not sure what his story was, he spoke broken English and was a year younger than all of us. That day we are in math class where we had a scheduled test and the teacher tells the kid “just try to do whatever you understand”. The kid was the first to finish, 15-20 minutes ahead of anyone else, so we’re all thinking this kid must not know anything coming from a backwards country. The next day the teacher tells us he got a perfect score on the test. I’m pretty sure that kid went on to big things in this country without any more Iranian teachers in his life.

Another issue I have is ESL. My parents spoke broken English and when I went to kindergarten I knew nothing in English. There were no ESL classes/options back then. You were thrown into the fire and you learned the language. When I see young people in this country, who have been living here for 5-10 years, and barely speak English I go insane.

I do not agree with the philosophy of using race to decide who gets hired or who gets fired. I think that is the wrong way to go about it. I'm just pointing out how it probably came about. And I bet if they have black schools with all white teachers that even those white teachers are begging for more black adults to help them.

Obviously this is a complex issue without a clear path that works perfectly for all involved. And obviously blacks have bigger issues that are ingrained into their culture. But like I said earlier, right now there is a huge teacher shortage and there are no teachers of any race at threat of being laid off so it feels pointless to debate it all anyway. It would be different if there were lots of unemployed teachers all fighting for jobs, but that isn't the situation at all.
