The Boston Celtics appear to be the "unofficial front-runner" for a potential trade with the Brooklyn Nets for Kevin Durant, according to executives that have spoken with Sam Amick of The Athletic.

The Celtics have made Jaylen Brown the centerpiece of their offer for Durant. Brown is clearly the second best player on the Celtics and has made an All-Star Game.

The Nets are using the presence of Brown in trade talks as a baseline in negotations with other teams, sources tell Amick. The messaging from Brooklyn is that they're not interested in discussing deals with teams unless at least their second best player is included.

Brooklyn had reportedly hoped to keep Durant if trade offers from teams didn't improve, but his meeting with Joe Tsai has signaled that he will continue to agitate for a trade and is not interested in remaining with the franchise.

Durant is the biggest biatch in the NBA and it's not even close. His legacy is forever tarnished, this would solidify it.

Blowing up a team that would have won the finals if Tatum didn’t poop his pants for a 34 year old who hasn’t played a full season since 2019 (and even then he promptly tore his Achilles in the playoffs). Seems smart.

Nothing of substance has advanced towards any trade happening. KD bouta rot in Brooklyn lol.

Let Durant rot in Brooklyn.

Same with Simmons and Kyrie.

Who wants these troublemakers.

How are they going to keep those three while beating the allegedly rejected Celtics package based on Jaylen Brown?

Kd may end up the 1st all time great who's career narratives will far outweigh his accomplishments.....smdh Had the skill to maybe climb into the top 10 and killed himself in the water.

I dont really love the fit of Tatum and Durant tbh, even tho it looks amazing on paper... both are too soft as competitors. Tho I guess with guys like Smart and Horford around theyll still have enough leadership.

But Id be worried as Boston about the idea of having both of your best players being such tame, receding types in the face of adversity.

I know it worked with KD and Curry, but that was a unique situation with unparalleled talent on the roster. Boston doesnt have that level of advantage over the rest of the league.

it's too bad lebron is too loyal and honorable to demand a trade...legoat for kd straight up makes the nets instant title favorites.

Durant would make the Celtics a worse team.

I've documented on these boards for years how Casuals miss 50%+ of the game by
a) Obsessing on individual offense, esp. ISO drives
b) Not watching off-the-ball, such as defensive assignments, or factoring in team offense

There's a reason Durant has never won, and will never win without being on a team with one of the rare NBA players that knows how to win (LeBron, Steph, Kawhi, Giannis).

Routinely, Durant will lose his man on defense. This is TEAM defense. I'm not talking about 1:1 D. His player burns him off-the-ball. Casuals never notice this. His man (player X), once free, gets the ball, Durant's teammate will cover his missed assignment, Player X passes to his teammate Player Y, Player Y scores. The average NBA casual fan clown will then blame Durant's teammate for letting Player Y score.

People who are actually watching the game know that Durant broke the defense.

Great teams that win it all know how important Team Defense is to winning. There couldn't be a better example than the Boston Celtics who always had the offensive firepower, but one fine day mid-season, decided to all play Defense, and started clobbering teams.

Unfortunately for the game, Team D is NOT captured in stats. That which we can't define quantitatively becomes difficult to discuss in sports debates. That's why most miss how much of a liability Durant is. It's both a lack of conditioning, and simply conserving his energy for offense.

Team Offense goes beyond Individual Offense. It's making your teammates better. By doing thing like setting screens (not in stats), being a decoy distracting defenders (not in stats), precision passing (even if doesn't result in an immediate basket/Assist, breaks down the D), spacing the floor, being active off the ball. Durant does NONE of these things. Makes his teammates worse. I don't blame Harden for leaving that situation.

In fact, he is a negative, by doing things like standing well behind the 3-pt arc when he's not getting the ball, hands on his knees. Forcing his team to play 4 on 5 (since his defender realizes he's checked out and guards Durant's teammates).

In the 3 years Durant was on the Warriors, GSW had a better record without Durant and with Curry than with both- both in the regular season, and playoffs. NOT an accident- it owes to the things I just mentioned. Durant was great for exciting casual fans, and making things more entertaining with ISO moves- good for selling seats and TV numbers. End of the day that's just ONE dimension of the game- he gave up as many or more points as he scored in the ways I mentioned.
