When I had the audacity to make some suggestions that might improve her English, she just brushed me off. Her spoken English is no better now than it was 5 years ago because they all speak Spanish to each other. Sometimes, I'll be in a meeting and they switch to Spanish mid sentence and it's like "Hey, I'm here and you don't even realize that you've switched." Language is a barrier as they hit a certain level and can't progress - can't communicate in high level meetings, don't quite comprehend certain emails, etc. Also, interview panels are more likely to be one Hispanic, one white/American and one non-white/Hispanic (usually black).

Not good - there is not enough time and too many of them to integrate into being Americans/learning English. We should be a melting pot - not pockets of different foreign languages. There are some malls that I go to that they look at me strange because I don't speak Spanish.

If you think Miami is bad, visit other parts of the US. :lol Cubans are by far the most English proficient of all Spanish speaking immigrants. That's why I learned to speak Spanish, I use it every day
