Who is the NBA player that most reminds you of Dirt McGirt? I.e. a guy who’s often seen as a joke because he’s ****ing weird to the point of being insane but lowkey he’s super talented and a legend everyone loves.

Dennis is too easy:

so I’ll give it some more thought.

True that would be too obvious. Although I’m not sure Dennis was ever as beloved as ODB, he seems to have a lot of people who can’t stand him to the point he’s even arguably somewhat of a hated figure where as far as I know most people liked ODB. I could be wrong though hardly an expert on Wu-Tang history.

Not as weird as Rodman but Gilbert Arenas comes to mind.

Maybe, I don't think he's on the right level of weird though.

Bro why tf are you talking to yourself.

And the answer is obviously Artest.

And ODB was not "super talented."

Odb is hard to judge talent wise. He was a force off his personality and he stood out on songs with better “rappers” but being larger than life has always been a factor. It’s not like Madonna was a great singer or anything. Odb was like an Al Green. Not the most technically gifted as a performer but if you ****ing to Simply Beautiful you better hope she’s on the pill because you aren’t pulling out:

And considering that I’m not sure Artest fits. He was technically proficient at his area of expertise even if he looked like a fat guy who just lost 100 pounds when he’d move on offense.

Rodman really may be the best pick. A real “Is he good or is he just….effective?” type. But people who know what they’re watching know that in fact Rodman was great…at what he chose to be great at.

I really don’t know who is the right kind of confusing if it isn’t Rodman. Dude would pat a guy on the ass to get the guy to shove him even if it was a double tech because now the guy is on edge all night worried about being kicked out. And a guy like Zo for one can’t play restricted like that. It’s brilliant but it’s not exactly basketball. Kinda like most of the sounds ODB would make on songs that were classic but hard to explain why.

Nah, Meth gave him rhymes to use, and he probably wasnt the only one.

This song dropped on Dirty’s debut solo in 95 and he’s credited with the writing.

But I have an obscure freestyle on my phone - which I cant find on YT right now - where Meth spits the same lyrics on a radio show in 94 :lol

I’m sure it wasnt the only instance of the clan helping him out with some song credits to eat off of.

It’s fine to enjoy his delivery, his style, the songs he did... but to say he was super talented would be kind of an insult to artists who actually are super talented. He basically just brought crackhead energy to Meth lyrics and Rza production.

As far as Artest, Im thinking more along personality lines than craft. The aliases, the antics, the unabashed hood roots... it all fits. Altho thankfully I think Artest had a bit more to work with upstairs and finally got things figured out for the most part.

It’s not about the words with ODB. There are whole songs of his I know word for word(Brooklyn zoo for example) where his words means absolutely nothing. He’s just energy on a beat. It wouldn’t matter if Meth or whoever wrote the words because the words are nothing. He doesn’t even always rhyme them when they rhyme on paper. It’s like listening to Mystikal. The beat is hard and he does technically say words but almost none of them matter:

Its his energy and vibe that carries it.

Odb was damn near James brown like. Just making some noises with enough words to let his energy carry the song.

Not as a talent of course because James Brown was writing music but you know what I’m saying. The songs being classic doesn’t mean he was really saying much:

Not all of his music was like that of course but guys like him don’t need traditional lyrics. They’ll go perform the song live with totally different words and it makes not a speck of difference.
