It's funny how so many people swear Kobe is top three with MJ/Lebron or even have Kobe as GOAT.

Kareem is easily above Kobe.

It seems as though Kareem had something to prove when he faced Hakeem and Ewing. He was often letting them know that the "old man" still had game.

What did he have to prove? He already beat out a 23 year old Ewing and 25 year old Olajuwon for 1st Team All NBA as a 39 year old. Even Jordan couldn't do that and Lebron almost certainly won't if Lebron is a 3rd team all nba player as a 37 year old. Lebron is lucky he has a 3 year head start on Kareem or he'd have no chance of catching him on the scoring title not to mention possibly more MVPs and and FMVPs

Receny bias favors Lebron but when the smoke clears he'll be solidly planted at #3

Huh? What the heck did my post have to do with LeBron? :facepalm

Also, my statement about Kareem "having something to prove" against Hakeem and Ewing was pretty self evident. It was obvious that I wasn't just talking about this one game. Notice I clearly stated that "he was often" letting them know that he could still ball at that older age, which implies that I was referring to previous encounters (e.g. when he faced them as a 38 year old) also. And yes he was still beating them out for all NBA teams at an older age and in terms of his overall career, had nothing to prove by the time the game in the OP was played, but if you don't understand the significance of seeing how you perform head to head against another player, regardless of previous all-league voting, then you've missed the entire point of my post.

Well at the time he was doing this, it was considered an old man move, so this isn't surprising.

Kareem is way ahead of Kobe. Kobe was benefitting from recency bias. As time has passed since he retired, he's been generally moved down the rankings to a more reasonable spot- somewhere in the 10-15 range.
