View Full Version : Staying in an establishment after close

I was waiting for my son who now serves at a restaurant. This night he was taking a lot longer to leave. The reason being 2 patrons decided that finishing 1 beer was gonna take them 45 minutes after the establishment was closed. The manager had tried to tell them that the restaurant but the patron disagreed and started berating the manager.
I find that to be completely bizarre. Who stays at a place after it's closed, especially nearly an hour after? Even if you get a last call before close I just wouldn't bother even going in or staying. Is there some etiquette to this?

He's 18. It's part time while going to school. Probably the ideal job when going to University

wouldnt you rather for him to be doing something that lines up with his future career goals? Or does he want to serve other people for a living?

Working 1 or 2 days a week for extra money is gonna hinder his future plans? Lol. If anything he's learning how to balance life and work. Serving is the ideal PT job for students. He's a good student too. I have no problem with it. How do you distinguish a full time student with a part time job serving is a pathway to the service industry?
Funny, this is about entitled patrons and I'm getting told how to raise my kid lol

I am not telling you how to do anything, or saying that working this job will hinder him in any way... all I am saying is that serving is a shit job and personally I would rather that my son has a job that fits into his future plans in some way (Personally I also wouldnt want my son to be subjected to needless humiliation on a daily basis, as is the norm in most service jobs).

To each is own. Serving is a common job whole going to school. Millions of students doing it. You literally asked does he want to serve people the rest of his life.
Why do you feel the need to discuss this? The subject is not even about serving. Lol.

The thread is about entitled customers staying after close. Now it's about my personal business. Lol. Only on ISH
I shouldn't have shared my experience and just ask "how long is it appropriate to stay after a business is closed? "

You made it about your personal business in the original post brah
Why are you using your sons new restaurant career as an ISH conversation starter anyway?

This is why the service industry is one of the few industries that has seen wage growth that is beating inflation. No one wants to serve a population that has such a high percentage of complete a**holes. Especially drunk a**holes. People would rather be broke than do that.
None of us would have a waiter if it weren't for struggling students.

I used the personal business as an example. Not the topic. And the topic isn't even about school and side hustles. You chose to.make it about that. Thus derailing the topic.
Now you're being condescending by suggesting my son wants to make a career out of the industry when I clearly said he's a full time student.
This is why some topics are unbearable with you. You reconfigure the whole topic and dictate what the conversation is about. How about I delete the OP and just ask the question so your comments aren't relevant. Sound good?

Well then isn't it the onus of the shitty patrons?

:oldlol: sorry for triggering you man, that definitely was not my intention...I suppose that I walk into a room I tend to reconfigure the topic and dictate the conversation (especially a room full of Ish posters. For the record non doesnt mean other people are = supposedley there or "unbearable" to me.

It actually does make it unbearable. Especially when suggesting my son wants to be a server
Me: My son is in University studying to be a doctor. But he's working weekends as a server for extra cash
Nanners: so your so wants a career in the service industry?
Lol you see how it's unbearable?
Any normal human being would just walk away after that.
But in any case back to the topic lol

the appropriate time to leave is always going to be a variable influenced by a bunch of things, but assuming the house is in decent shape I should be just fine

drink beer and kick back after closing? i wouldn't. although it would be different if i were finishing my meal. plus i'd take any dessert to go.
otoh, as the owner/manager i wouldn't approach them about it. i'd just make it super clear that we're ready to go and waiting on you.

Only on ISH do people melt down when someone suggests that a father helps his college age son find a job better than serving food at a shit restaurant that doesnt respect their employees
my apologies for ever daring to suggest that perhaps your son is worth more than this shit job, maybe this job is perfect for both him and you
