So here's a hypothetical situation. You have to defend one of the following guys for one play, and your life depends on stopping him fro scoring. He scores, you die. He doesn't, you live.

Which one would you LEAST want to have to defend?

Michael Jordan
Kobe Bryant
Lebron James
Shaquille O'neal
Steph Curry
Wilt Chamberlain
Ja Morant

Are we including them having to make both free throws if fouled?

Interesting question...let's say yes. If you foul them and they make both their free throws, you die.

Reliant on guards?

I agree that with the last play you're going to have the ball in a guards hands for spacing purposes. But...what?

Then Jordan. Shaq would actually probably be the last guy I want to see in a 1-on-1 but I could just foul and he would never be left 1-on-1 in a do or die situation.

Well Kobe has the record for missed shots right? And I think MJ had the record before that.

So from a strategic perspective the easiest to stop are the guys who most often stop themselves.

So theyre at the bottom of my “least wanna have to stop” list.

Lebron James is at the top.

Everyone else in the middle.

The guys ahead of them can bring the ball up and immediately go to work. Meaning they can handle the ball.

Big men require a post entry pass, especially if their game is none face up reliant or capable (Shaq, Wilt, Kareem) …

Hakeem and D-Rob could at least face up and go to work from the elbow. In fact I should’ve added Barkley, Karl Malone and Dirk to the list above some of those centers.

Comprehend now?

Oh okay so just requiring someone to pass them the ball? I'd hardly call that "reliant". There's an extra step, sure. But that wasn't the question.

If you're 1-on-1 with Shaq, hell...if ANYONE is 1-on-1 with Shaq (aside from a couple all time freaks) he's going to be getting the ball. And you're going to have to defend him.

But it’s still reliance. The other guys can produce at the same level without needing someone to deliver them the ball at specific ways and positions. It most definitely is important in terms of being able to stop someone. Load up on an entry pass, can’t do that with someone who can handle the ball

So I'm still me and I have to defend an NBA player from driving past me for an easy dunk/layup else I die, but I can foul in order to live and you ask who's the hardest to guard in the situation? Of course it's Curry. I can't prevent any of these guys from driving past me, but Curry has the highest chance of hitting both FTs.

Without FTs it's Shaq and not even close.

Not really fair if free throws are counted here. That would really exclude Shaq and Wilt immediately. Otherwise, it would probably be one of them.

Barkley should get a mention. Highest 2-Point FG% while scoring over 22 PPG on only 12.9 Two-Point FGAs PG.

unfortunately this poll is putting players of yesteryear in with current players.

MJ just got the 3 pt line ... if he used it more often he would of had more points per game .. but he could score any way he wanted to.

Wilt never had an outside shoot , and Ja Morant uses the 3 as a weapon.

I still go with MJ

Who is guarding them?

Each one of them would win 100 times in a row against each of us, though maybe 3ball wins a few against Lebron by making him a shooter.

Who is going to guard them?

MJ shouldn't be in this one, he was and would be, completely unstoppable against all but a few elite wing defenders.

Shaq could be guarded by several big bodies over his career. Same with Lebron, plenty of big strong wings, could force him into a bad shot.

MJ couldn't be stopped.

Id guarded by me Kareem or Shaq needing an entry pass is absolutely not a problem. Hell I’d have a better chance keeping a good guard from his spot than stopping Shaq from walking down low and putting his hand up. It’s said to be one on one. How am I gonna front Kareem or Shaq without help?

Who are we assuming is playing with them who couldn’t throw the ball over me?

If we are saying it doesn’t have to be on one on me it doesn’t matter. I have to stop them from scoring not stop the whole team. I’d put all 5 people on whoever and hope they just pass the ball. If they don’t know what’s going on(and obviously they wouldn’t or they wouldn’t be out to kill me for nothing) and are just playing a game? They pass and someone else scores and I live.

Maybe a Kobe type tries to take all 5 just ****ing around but probably not.

If it isn’t one on one I’d go 5 on 1 vs any and if it is I’d rely on a guard missing over Kareem not having his way. Kareem was scoring on nba players when he was 50 something working with the clippers. But he’s gonna need help to get me?

Nah. All in their primes give me a guard to defend and I hope for the best.

There are players whose specialized scoring games would thrive on certain types of court throughout NBA history. For example:

Shaq and Kareem on the pre-1979 court without the 3 point line
Cuckrry on the 1979-1994 & 1997-present court with the properly distanced 3 point line
Foolish jordon on the 1994-1997 court with the pee-wee distanced 3 point line

But the one who would be the hardest to stop if you had no idea what type of court you would be stepping onto is LeBron James.
