Because it's how the world works. US oil companies are in it to make money. The US government doesn't own the oil companies so short of nationalizing them (where the federal government comes in and takes over), we are not an independent oil nation. Not unless if the government owned all of the oil companies.

You can go "drill baby drill" all you want and approve/build/finish keystone xl pipeline all you want. The only ones who will profit from it are the private oil companies aka oil tycoons. US government or its citizens don't get a penny from it. It's something you will never hear on FauxNews.
