Best defensive era in NBA History. Low scoring game. I think it's an NBA record. 26 blocks in a tough playoffs game is remarkable.

Both of these teams averaged under 76 ppg. I think that Pacers team were very tough defensively. And if weren't for the Malice at the Palace they would have been the modern Day Badboys Pistons.

Probably the greatest defensive series of all time.

I came across this LA Times article from June 2, 2004, after Detroit defeated Indiana & clinched the East. It's a beauty. Jerry Crowe (the author) would be eating crow in short order.

The article begins....

Somewhere, the Lakers surely were laughing.

Or yawning.

In what passes for high-caliber Eastern Conference playoff basketball these days -- in a game that, hard to believe, matched the conference’s top two teams -- the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers thrashed about for nearly three hours Tuesday night in the Palace of Auburn Hills, littering the court with bricks.

When they finished, the final score indicating that the Pistons had been slightly less inept, the Pistons could call themselves conference champions.

I was big fan of those young Pacers teams and I was devastated by Tyshaun Prince's block. Maybe the most underrated block in NBA history, had he not make it the Pistons could have lost and the series would have been 2-0 in favor of the Pacers. And I think the 04 Lakers matched up better against the Pacers than versus the Pistons, maybe the Lakers won the finals and the Shaq-Kobe years could go on.

Very underrated series and game, anyway. And lol @ the LA Times article. They had no idea what was coming to hit them.

According to legendary statistician Harvey Pollack, Wilt Chamberlain had 25 blocks in a game against the Boston Celtics.

And on a Christmas Day game, Wilt blocked 23 shots because he was angry after the halftime interview with Jack Twyman when he asked him why he refused to listen to his coach's game-plan.

Can we either:
1. Open a thread, sticky it and move all these youtube threads started by Lebron23 to that one?
2. Install a FUP for Lebron23. Two threads a day.

Thanks, Kblaze.

It's a shame blocks weren't counted on the stat-sheet in the Chamberlain-Russell days. I have always been curious about how many they would have averaged.
