Oh wait, nevermind - a good passer isn't required to pass out of a double team because ANY PASS out of the double puts the defense at a 3-on-4 disadvantage.. aka double-teaming compromises the defense regardless of Hakeem's passing ability.

The only question that the opponent asks themselves is whether Hakeem's scoring is sufficiently devastating to require the defensive gamble of doubling (facing a 3-on-4).. So the defensive decision is to let Hakeem isolate, or double-team and face a 3-on-4 when he passes out of it.

Accordingly, the reason that teams don't double Lebron isn't because of his passing ability, since ANY pass out of a double-team puts the defense at a 3-on-4 disadvantage.. Teams don't double Lebron because his ball-dominant scoring isn't lethal enough to force the defensive compromise (3-on-4).. Teams meet penetrators at the rim with multiple defenders, so only hot jumpshooters require getting the ball out of their hands and facing the subsequent defensive deficit (3-on-4).
