he was traded because they were perimeter oriented. Dantley was the better player and fit. I didn't think too much of Tripuka on the Pistons but I liked him on the Jazz. He was a lot more than just a scorer. Layden didn't think much of him unfortunately

Adrian Dantley had the most impressive 4 season scoring stretch of the 80s between 1980 and 1984: 30.5 ppg on 19.3 FGA and .564 shooting.
Winning in the 80s was a problem, which was reserved for true elites: Magic, Bird & Isiah
