As obstinate as he is and as willing to engage in controversy Irving seems thin skinned.

The worse they look now the better he looks later. There’s no way the nets would have ended up the 13 seed anyway just like there is no way the heat end up 12. He’s gonna get credit for the turnaround that was inevitable anyway.

His reputation is not at risk. And yes I am being a little hyperbolic. But the Nets have two personalities that coaches have to dread dealing with in Irving and Simmons. He had spent some time with Irving but I bet he didn't enjoy it. What coach can you think of that was good at dealing with a player that thinks it's ok to just leave the team for two weeks in the middle of the season without telling anyone what he's up to? What is the coaching fix for that? Udoka last year was given the power to hold all of his players accountable. In Brooklyn it doesn't seem like Irving was ever held accountable. And then Simmons, who refused to play for a year after Doc admitted he wasn't sure they could win a championship with him at point guard. That wasn't even an insult just a failure to express complete confidence. You can't get into his face. You can't do anything where he feels like you might be being mean. He's too soft for that. How do you coach that kind of guy, especially when he has flaws that you have to address if you're going to maximize his effectiveness?
I won't act like Udoka is better off staying at home pleading with Nia Long for forgiveness but this could be the worst had coaching job in the NBA. I believe you have talked about jobs where you had to manage people. Would you want to deal with Irving or Simmons? It's awful to have two of your top three guys to be guys like that. And then you have the added knowledge that the players you are coaching had your predecessor fired? He had some kind of relationship with KD so maybe that's not a concern but the whole player empowerment era has not been good for management and when the players are guys like Irving and Simmons?

I once had to pull a guy aside and explain that the way he worked compared to the people around him was hurting the perception of young black men and he would be directly responsible for prejudice faced by people who remember him and his antics when it was time to hire others. He almost cried. I like to speak my mind and lead by example and hold people accountable in exchange for how much I look out for them in return. So no…I would not like to have the likes of Simmons under me.
That said….
Difficult personalities in talented people absolutely guaranteed to turn things around so my results will look better than my predecessor?
Its worth a shot when the alternative is sitting home.

All the experts that get paid millions on national sport networks predicted this Nets team would win the Championship this year. Think of that for a second.

I think you're overestimating how effective the 'talent' on the Nets will be as a collective basketball team. Kyrie Irving has not been an impactful player anywhere in his career. The success of his teams without him and his own lack of success outside of being teamed with LeTriumph demonstrate this.
Simmons is not proving very valuable as a playmaker given the abyssal depths his confidence has sunk to as a scorer, it's hard to create for others when youre null as a threat yourself. Also Durant is quite awkward and inept as a playmaker. There's nobody CAPABLE of making them a cohesive offense. A coach cannot scheme that kind of competence into existence.
Leading a team is just not in any of these guys skill sets. On top of which, the roster has no size and strength up front. No defense. The only thing going for them in any way is Irving and Durant can make tough shots. That's not gonna cut it against the many complete and well rounded teams out there. This isnt a matter of tinkering with lineups or making tempo adjustments. The team is fundamentally flawed across the board.
I'll be shocked if they're a .500 team by the end of this year. They're just not a good basketball team. Youre right, if Udoka somehow makes them a threat he'll deserve a ton of credit. If not - which is probable, because their flaws go well beyond coaching - he'll be stuck in a flaming toilet for some time.

No that was the prediction last year and tge year before. Some predicted it this year but a lot of pundits had given up on them before the start of the season.

This. This and only this. I said this all off season. The Nets did nothing about it. I kept waiting. I knew they could not win without addressing this. Why did they not address this?
zach lavine stepping up and winning one for deGOATzan
bulls finally have all of their perimeter guys. they didnt have much wing depth last year. come playoffs they were depleted and didnt have anything left for the bucks
having a full rotation will be everything this year. all this and without lonzo who is another crucial piece.
