View Full Version : Serious question and I want a real answer. What do you do about this?

In a league that won’t let you play honest physical defense?

After 6-7 more years of polish if he has even a rudimentary in between and post game to punish guards who disrupt his handle…

What are you telling his man to do about that?

What kinds of players do you send out there?

What’s your plan going into a big game if he’s still healthy and gets better at everything as he likely will the next few years?

Whats your first thought on how to defend a creature his size who can do that?

You’d have to have a special long defender who can get in his face. Like a KG or young Tmac (yea I went there) type.

When you’re playing defense offensively against him his handle can waver a bit. For now.

It will take something against anyone’s natural inclination to be okay letting him by you and making him dribble and create in traffic. It will take a team locked in defensively.

Id he develops half of Dirks “Don’t need to be open” look you in the eye and shoot over you shit it’s a wrap. You really are better off letting him go by and deal with traffic.

That’s a pretty big if though. Dirk is one of the best ever at that.

If he gets on that level consistently as a shooter then of course it’s a wrap.

A lot of guys can make shots, and sometimes make them over an extended period but Dirk did that shit every night for over a decade.

I wonder how many teams are thinking Scoot is Ja to Victors Zion:

Less physical red flags in a league designed for such players to thrive. I remember making a topic on which teams might take Ja over Zion and I think we decided it was only Phoenix(pre Paul). Would any team take Scoot #1 under any circumstances?

No I don’t think you can. Although I think Scoot is probably the best prospect certainly since Zion at least. He reminds me more of an Iverson with a tiny bit of Wade mixed in there.

But unless you have a 3rd eye where you can see that Victor has injury concerns it’s still a no brainer. Even if he’s average offensively, which is unlikely, he’ll still be a massive force on the other end. His (injury free) floor is too high.

Maybe they have similar ceilings.

If a guy wants to shoot a 3 off one foot I let him do it until he proves he can make it consistently.

do your best to get a hand up and dare them to take that shot all day

That's one side of the ball.

From what I've seen in the french league, Wemba still gets straight up bullied in the post.

There is only one man who can stop what's coming.

Lucky for him there are only like 6 post scorers in the entire nba. Won’t be an issue.

I’ve been watching his highlights pretty steady and…he kinda does it a lot. He really shoots 3 point floaters:

And he does it to get 4 point plays. I don’t know that he’s a flopper yet but…he’s doing damage with this move:

punish him on PnR, get him in foul trouble, display his lack of ability to block shots given his size.

Compared to the NBA, he has bums guarding him. Better bulk up, I'm sure he will cuz Giannis was rail thin when he was drafted too.

This guy will go to the NBA, bulk up a lot and get injury prone.

We've seen this movie many times before.

Putback dunk off a stepback 3. He’s who people mean when they say players are getting too big for the court. He covers ground like he’s on a mini backyard court.

Ralph Sampson mixed with Giannis mixed with KD.

That's a disaster waiting to happen.

2nd (and poor man's) coming of Ralph Sampson.

let's see if he can stay on the floor first. Odds are against it at his size
