Imagine being this simpleminded. He doesn’t get credit for happening to work in LA and attracting LeBron and AD to his team simply because of location and prestige. As soon as those guys declined and could no longer carry garbage look what happened. Although of course he made it even harder for them to carry anything by trading away any competent teammates.

The 2021 team was very good too. I dont know why they say Pelinka 'blew up' the 2020 team. He only let Caruso or McGee slip away, but lets not act like these are the most crucial high impact players in the league. They kept KCP and Kuzma, and added Wes Mathews, Trezz Harrell, Marc Gasol and Schroeder which were very good picks ups at the time. This was once again one of the top defenses in the league and very much had the ability to go back to back until AD got injured int he playoffs

LeBron is such a damn beast for giving this incompetent bum GM a ring.
That 2020 championship with LeBron as the Finals MVP is going to be like an oasis in the middle of a desert when you look at how much the Lakers have sucked since the early 2010s.
Imagine if the Knicks somehow won a championship in 2010, but sucked just as much every other season since 2000.
Winning with Pelinka as the GM is almost as impressive as beating a 73-9 team with Kyrie as your #2. Almost.

The guy running the hawks traded Red Auerbachs favorite player behind his back so he quit and joined the Celtics. Then the hawks drafted Cousy but wouldn’t meet his demand of 10K a year so he wouldn’t report. He went to the Celtics for I think 8K. They later drafted Bill Russell and in a 3ballish bout of idiocy decided basketball was nothing but individual scoring ability so they traded him to…of course…the Celtics. Red then created the “Defense wins championships” trend with Bill and the fast break with Cousy and won 11 rings, drafted the core that won 2 more in the 70s, drafted Bird, traded for Mchale and Parish to win 3 more and remained president till 2006.
Long story short the Hawks guy made the Celtics the Celtics. Probably worse than Rob.
Then there’s the guys who kept giving the Lakers and Celtics top picks for their aging garbage. The Jazz traded the pick that was Magic for an about to retire Gail Goodrich. The Cavs gave them the #1 that was Worthy in a series of moves so bad they’re the reason the nba doesn’t let you trade consecutive top picks like that anymore.
Rob probably isn’t bottom 5-10 not that I think the title was meant to be investigated or anything. I’m just bored waiting for biscuits to bake.

It's Pelinka's job. Stars have some influence but it's well know that LeBron has been denied multiple times during his Lakers stint. Even if you want to squarely blame him for the Russ thing (which would be ignorant) it's still crazy that of all players he was interested in teaming up with, THAT was who Pelinka chose to roll with. Not the options before. Just gambling on Russ, vet mins and g-league level players working.

James reportedly set up a "war room" in his Brentwood house and researched who could be available and fit alongside him. James held in-person meetings and calls with prospective candidates.
