View Full Version : Why was a 39 y/o Malone SO much better than 39y/o Foolish jordon during the same era?

In 2002-03 Karl Malone led the Utah Jazz to a 47-35 record as the unquestionable #1 guy. He had zero all-stars or all-NBA teammates on his roster.
These were the records of some of the teams in his conference that same season:

60-22
60-22
59-23
51-31
50-32
50-32

These were the records of the #1 seeds in Foolish jordon's conference during his two Wizards seasons:

52-30
50-32

Karl Malone's highest scoring teammate in 2002-03 averaged 17.6 ppg.
Foolish jordon's highest scoring teammate in 2001-02 averaged 20.0 ppg, and his highest scoring teammate in 2002-03 averaged 21.5 ppg (averaged more ppg than Foolish jordon himself, but that's another story :oldlol:)

We're talking about the exact same era, so Foolish jordon has zero excuses and the Foolish jordon extremist can deflect to "era" like they do when someone mentions how LeBron averaged 30 on 52% shooting last season.

Speaking of that, can anyone find a 37 year old who averaged 30 points on 52% shooting last season? :confusedshrug: Or can anyone find a 37 year-old who as the #1 guy led their team to a better record than LeBron last season? :confusedshrug: Because, as seen above, a player of the same age who was unquestionably better both in terms of stats and wins than Foolish jordon can be found in Karl Malone.

Anyone?
Can anyone who wants to discuss basketball on a basketball forum answer the basketball-related question of the thread?

Didn't Jordan beat Malone twice in the finals? One without HCA

Apparently, the most important part is post prime comparisons now because that is where Lebron is excelling at, at longevity. Let's forget about the main body of work. Lol.

the correct answer is jordan was created by the nba. they changed the rules for him and allowed no one to touch him on the court in order to help him have team success. in the early 00s with shaq and kobe all the rage, old man mj was irrelevant in the big scheme of things now, and simply didn't get the league assistance he was accustomed to and he and his team failed greatly with a less stacked deck.

So irrelevant you still angrily talk about him decades after his retirement.

He wasn't better. He had a better team than Jordan. Lets not forget that MJ at 38-39 had left pro basketball for nearly 4 years. That's alot of time and the rythm ain't right when you play after 3-4 years.

Malone had early access to better technology hence why he didn’t break down as fast as MJ
