Capitalist villains of the past: Agosto Pinochet

One of the evilest men in history, Pinochet worked with the CIA to overthrow democratically elected Salvador Allende, who was one of the greatest champions of the working class the world has ever seen in a politician. With the help of the US Pinochet then became a ruthless dictator, getting rid of all the benefits Allende had installed for the and instituting a highly privatized economy that led to massive inequality. He was responsible for the execution/forced disappearance of over 3,000 people, the internet of over 80,000 and the torture of tens of thousands. Just how evil was Pinochet? His torture methods included having women raped with dogs and rats and electrocuting people’s genitals.

Pinochet compromised individual liberties in order to ensure the security of the Chilean state. He's like Batman.



Batman: "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." I can do those things, because I'm not a hero, not like Dent. I killed those people, that's what I can be.

Gordon: No, you can't! You're not!

Batman: I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be. Call it in.

Batman: You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes…the truth isn't good enough. Sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.

James Gordon: Why is he running, Dad?

Commissioner Gordon: Because we have to chase him.

James Gordon: He didn't do anything wrong.

Commissioner Gordon: Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero: He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a Dark Knight.
