View Full Version : So the current top 5 NBA players are...

AlternativeAcc.

1. LeBron/Durant
3. Luka
4. Giannis
5. Tatum

Does this look about right?

So they're all around the same height and extremely versatile. They all play defense. Well Luka is still developing in that area, but his offense makes up for it and he's underrated on defense.

No longer can you be under 6'5 and be a top player. Size matters.

Lebron

25 ppg with lousy efficiency on a crap team. Completely shameless trolling.

I do think Durant is still up there. He's averaging 30ppg with great defense, despite the teams 6-8 record.

He is still a great player. Best in the world? Got some work to do to regain that standing.

I agree with you in the sense that I could see myself putting Durant up there but not until Jan. I don't trust Durant's body at this point in the season.

100% agree with OP that LeHeartOfAChampion definitely still number one.

After that I think you can make arguments for Jokic and Giannis due to their ability to both carry the offense efficiently and set up everyone around them.

Next Id probably go with Embiid, I think having that much scoring prowess matched with that much size is a pretty enormous asset.

Luka is the guy I find hardest to place. He does have drawbacks like high turnovers and some defensive weaknesses (altho the numbers do suggest he has some defensive strengths as well) and when he’s got it going you could argue he gives his teams the highest offensive ceiling of anyone. So he’s more dynamic but less consistent.

Durant is arguably still the most “dangerous” player in the game in terms of having nights where he just never misses a shot, but I dont think his strengths beyond scoring are on par with those other guys.

Tatum has a very impressive overall package (not as BIG as Lebron’s tho) but still a few too many ‘deer in the headlights’ playoff games for my taste. Would need to see some improvement there before I put him with the others.

Curry I also find hard to judge his true impact due to how well the team around him has historically fit his game. It’s difficult to say how much of the success is him and how much is the help. That said, hes obviously somewhere among the top guys, but hard to say if hes actually over rated or under rated.

After that it’s the rest of the all stars, then behind them is the everyday starters, then the bench guys, and at the very absolute bottom of the league in terms of impact and value, are Lebron’s teammates.

You got Steph with the 'rest of the stars' category?

Hard to put them in the right order but I'd go with:

Giannis
Luka
Steph
Durant
Jokic

That last spot could easily be switched with Embiid or Tatum imo

Currently this season and also based off what they accomplished last season.

1. Giannis
2. Curry
3. Doncic
4. Tatum
5. ???? More than likely Durant

One thing is FOR SURE, Lebron has NOT been a top 5 players this season neither last season, no matter what angle you look at it.

In alphabetical order:

Curry
Giannis
Jokic
KD
Luka

I also could easily swap one or two inclusions for KD/Embiid, but it's a bit washy this early on in the regular season.

Also not ready to rank them all since, again, that's too indistinct at this point, though the BITW title is still Giannis' until further notice since he was the most dominant individually last postseason.
