View Full Version : 3 Teams were great last year, so far look unimpressive: 76ers, Heat, Warriors

Thoughts on why these teams dropped off? And projections on whether they will recover. (and yes we know it's "early" but still interested if there are key reasons for the difference)
Last year / This year
76ers: 51-31 / 7-7
Heat: 53-29 (#1 in East) / 7-7
Warriors: 53-29 / 6-8
Off the top, not sure there were major personnel changes at least in terms of their top players. Have my own thoughts on GSW since I follow them closely, but will wait till others share first.

The Warriors lost a lot of key bench pieces from last year. Their bench is nowhere near as good this season as last. Still very early though. Post Christmas is when I think we'll really start seeing the true state of most teams.

Means nothing. Teams get hot and cold randomly. Heat was 14-11 last season before going on a rampage. Philly started last season 16-16 and they went to 32-23 before Harden joined the team. Warriors ended the regular season on a 12-15 losing record last season.

The Warriors could easily have had a 9-5 record right now if they didn't play Wiseman at all.

First few weeks of NBA season don't count. Plenty of guys still feeling the effects of offseason PED cycle will lose steam in the coming weeks and months.

Team hasn’t been healthy all year and we were tinkering with lineup….plus doc is the coach. So all that combined made us start off bad

My analysis of teams that are talented on paper suddenly dropping off is a breakdown of the locker room. Players who can't stand each other.
It also fits with all 3 teams who have known difficult or even toxic personalities.
Warriors need to trade Draymond or Poole, probably Poole, they can get Dwight Powell and THJ for him.
Sixers need to trade Harden and let Maxey run the show. If Embiid can't find a way to play with Maxey, then it's time to consider selling while his value is high, selling Embiid that is. Mavs will offer Dwight Powell and THJ.
Heat are probably tired of Butler and his antics, Mavs will take him, offer is Dwight Powell and THJ.
The Warriors could easily have had a 9-5 record right now if they didn't play Wiseman at all.
