View Full Version : KD throws teammates under the bus while stroking his own ego

“Look at our starting lineup. Edmond Sumner, Royce O’Neale, Joe Harris, [Nic] Claxton and me. It’s not disrespect, but what are you expecting from that group? Durant asked. “You expect us to win because I’m out there. So if you’re watching from that lens, you’re expecting us to play well because No. 7 is out there." - KD

NBA fans aren't pleased with Durant's comments about the Nets' starting lineup. They believe he's showing poor leadership skills.

"Imagine being the guys on this roster that he just named," one person said. "Kevin Durant might be the worst leader of all time."

If I was O'Neale I'd punch this dude out in the lockerroom for disrespecting me. I made the NBA. I'm a ****ing baller, dude.

Didn't kobe say shit like this?

yes but kobe was so alpha that being disrespected and criticised by him is a gift anyone would be grateful for

KD is a beta. in the same interview he said he originally requested a trade this summer because he knew he would get the blame if the nets sucked this season. Hm reminds me, if he's gonna request a trade again, how about we do a Lebron/1st rd pick for KD? who says no?

Damn, this is disrespect on another level.

This has to be in order to force a trade.

No way he can keep playing with that group now.

Also, Mavs will take Joe Harris if it was up to me, but Cuban is still holding out for Deandre Jordan so it won't happen.

:lol

Damn. KD is arguably the biggest alpha in sports.

Let's be honest, he has the worst supporting cast in the league by a mile. He knows it and his teammates know it too. It's why he's able to openly talk about it. Great leadership shown here

I was reading this a little while ago and decided I’d read the whole article to see it in context before complaining on here about it and it’s not quite as bad as it sounds there. That said of course if LeBron said it it would be entire segments on first take and so on but it is what it is. And they may come for KD as well just to fill time but like I said….whole article? I kinda get what he was saying. He wasn’t as negative as it sounds there.

lol, there would be numerous topics on the first page about LeBron's quote if he ever did this.

Katie is an all-time great player, an amazing talent. An amazing scoring talent. One of the best I’ve ever seen, easily.

He is however not a leader. He is a mega star but a Beta superstar. He can’t lead a team. He doesn’t command authority and respect for some reason.

As much shit as I talk guys like LeBron, Chris Paul, Kobe, even Dwyane Wade and Rodno did it better than him. Even a guy like Jimmy Butler is a better leader than him.

He’s a follower. Always has been.

Lmao.

That nikka doesnt realize what he is saying anymore.

Cant remember anyone flat out calling his own team bad like that.

But the guy is delusional when it comes to support.

He doesnt realize he had the best ever help in GS.

He thought the team was bad back in 2020 when they nearly made the playoffs without him and Kyrie. Called them out when they had so much talent.

This off-season he wasnt satisfied with the talent around him.

Now more of this stuff...

absolute primadonna.

They need to just trade KD to the Lakers, it's the only thing that makes any sense.

Over the past few months KD has been on a roll. He demands a trade before his new deal even starts, demands Nash get fired and now this. Not a good look.

Kds not wrong but he’s just a bit too honest with the media except for Kyrie stuff. Harden trade was a disaster and it’s not that hard to sign a backup big

He shouldn't be saying that shit when his team is good enough to contend when healthy. Should have just said that they're essentially missing 2 of their star players with the Irving suspension & with Simmons coming off the bench as he's working to get back in shape after missing a year and having a back injury.

Nets are a good team when they have their guys and we're not even a month into the season yet. Warriors are 6-8 and have been worse in their last 10 games than Brooklyn.

He shouldn't be saying this stuff if he is trying to lead the current team. But if he is trying to get traded or get the front office to make trades then saying this is understandable. I wouldn't like what he said if I was his teammate or a Nets fan but I can understand the possible motivation.

Like Barkley said, he's not a bus driver.

He's also not a good teammate. He's always been the best player on the team, possibly even with the Warriors, but you could tell they preferred hooping more with him off the court. As already stated, he's not a leader.

Durant asked. “You expect us to win because I’m out there. So if you’re watching from that lens, you’re expecting us to play well because No. 7 is out there."

Why would we expect the Nets to win strictly because Durant was on the floor. Durant was on the floor last 3 years with the Nets and they've been a mediocre team. Durant was on the floor with OKC for about a decade and never won.

The quote itself doesn't matter as much as what it says about how KD thinks about the game. KD is strictly an ISO player and there are many in the game. The winners in this league like Giannis, LeBron, Steph think bigger- which is why they win. It's about how you engage your teammates. The supporting cast on the Bucks has never been great; Steph won last year when his next best player was andrew wiggins.

Whatever bball culture Durant grew up with, playing with Westbrook was clearly toxic where both tried to one-up each other rather than say "how we win as a team?". They are both horribly selfish and neither will ever win anything.

Haha, nice bait. We've covered this before. If you didn't internalize why this doesn't matter then, you won't now. Good luck trying to win w/out joining a championship team. You have a few years to prove yourself.

You know who else won FMVPs?

Andre Igoudala
Tony Parker
Chauncey Billups
Joe Dumars
James Worthy
Cedric Maxwell
Dennis Johnson

And all those players are better leaders than the snake.

Whats your point…?

The guy I responded to made the unqualified statement Durant would never win anything. This after he’s already been named MVP of a championship team twice.

Have whatever opinion of Durant you want. But saying he’ll never win anything is absurd and nonsensical for obvious reasons. He’s won two titles and FMVPs.

Unless they have a miraculous turnaround/championship run at some point, this KD/Kyrie led Nets team has to go down in history as one of the most under-accomplishing teams in NBA history

My point is, worse players than him won the award so it's not saying much.

And the other guy was right, the only reason he won those chips and FMVPs was because he joined a 73 win team that can win without him, him being there was an overkill.
Outside of his GSW years, what exactly did he win?

That team choked a 3-1 series lead and would have lost to the same team before if not for 2 horrific injuries that knocked out 2 all-stars the year prior

That Warriors team could have possibly never been good enough to beat a fully healthy Cavs team ever without KD

They completely collapsed though it's not like it went back and forth, they lost three straight including a crucial game 7 at home
