if jordan never retired for 1999, 2000, 2001 I wonder if kobe woulda beat his ass in the finals once or twice

I wish they kept that bulls team together.. only problem is phil would coach the bulls. I think they woulda got 2 of the 3 regardless anyway in 01 and 02

jordan and lebron robbed us of those finals matchups

Kobe with the massive statpadding in this one

MJ went to the bench with 36 and Kobe only had 21.

Good point; a lot of people forget, but Chicago was beating the Lakers by 20 going into the 4th. MJ left the game early in the 4th, and Kobe went off the rest of the way. He had 16 points that quarter, including 8 in the final 2 minutes.

Also on this date 16yrs ago, Hibachi dropped 60pts on Kobe's Lakers to lead Washington to the win in OT.

I remember that game - Jordan was making certain that he didn't appear to be trying while still making sure he outplayed the youngster. it cost him that backdoor though

kobe actually dunked on jordan twice in 1998.. one of them was in Los Angeles but Jordan took the take foul to avoid being on a poster

Probably would have. He wouldn’t have completely outplayed him individually but..Shaq. Nobody in the year 2000 was fvcking with him.

yeah and yet that same kobe airballed 4 straight times before MJ hit the walk-off against the same Jazz opponent in the Finals.. Jordan also destroyed Kobe in the all-star game - he hit 5 shots directly on him 1-on-1, while Kobe was mostly stuffed - I think he hit 1 shot on Mike

an 18 year old rookie was the only guy that wanted to shoot those shots lol. Shaq and everyone else on the Lakers admitted in interviews they were shook and wanted to avoid blame

those shots were commendable. Jordan was a way worse shooter and player at 18 years old.

He was playing well into the 4th when the outcome of the game was determined. If it wasn't MJ would have stayed in and probably had 40+. So Kobe scored a number of points when the game was basically in the bag. That's statpadding in garbage time as a bench player once the starters have been pulled.

Yeah, you could tell by the 98 ECFs that the Bulls were on their last legs. Pippen was never the same after his back surgery and Rodman was in his late 30s and declined from the spark he was in 96 when he joined them. If they somehow got back to the finals in 2000, they're not beating Shaq. Young Kobe would have given 37 year old MJ fits in terms of keeping up with his youth and energy, but Shaq would have been the overwhelming difference here.
