And of course it was the top reply. A salary breakdown suggesting it’s like a normal person giving 50 bucks. Meanwhile…normal people aren’t giving out 50 bucks.

People love to spend rich peoples money. Westbrook left like an 8 thousand dollar tip for housekeeping once and people did the same thing. Pop leaves 5-10 thousand for the staff after team dinners. Same thing.

How much would they have to give to not get that reaction?

Enough to not be rich anymore?

Can we just say “That’s nice.” as a society and not complain? That’s a stupid question isn’t it?

The reply in question by the way:

His annual salary: $38 million. Gift total: $22,500. Percentage of his annual salary: 0.06%. 0.06% x $50,000 annual salary equals $30. So if you make $50,000, it would be like spending $30 total split amongst 450 employees.

it is beneficial for them to give a certain amount of money away tax wise so I certainly don't think they are doing anything necessarily special by doing so. Gobert has a foundation like many of them and does a lot. He gave money to the employees here as well. Maybe $100 it seems? He didn't even ask for the full super max he could have

Pretty sure giving a Christmas gift to Target employees is not tax deductible.

But to OP's point, yes, it was a nice gesture. He didn't have to give anything. And if anyone criticizes that he didn't give enough, let them give their own money away.

If you're rich and you can't give someone 100$ as a tip or gesture then don't give anything.

Cheap but not cheaper than Jordan, God won’t bless people like this. Hopefully he gets a career ending injury, the kind that not only takes him off the court but affects him for the rest of his life.

It’s all in how you look at it.

If the five highest paid players, the coach, the GM, two minority owners, and the majority owner each gave all these people 50 bucks, thatd be a total of $500 per person.

Not bad for a tip you werent expecting in the first place.

Instead Toody gets crushed for offering 50 bucks MORE than anyone else did :lol

used to work at a car wash here in the early 90's. Jazz players got whatever they wanted for free. Benoit would give like $5. I think he was a rookie. Sloan $10 I think. The one time Stockton came in he gave $2 to two people

The reply in question by the way:

Split feelings.

Assuming the the reply's math is correct, they have an extremely valid point.

But to your point, we shouldn't go around telling people how to spend their money regardless of financial status and judging people for not giving more. He earned that money by providing a service that is consumed in a widespread manner.

He can do with his money as he pleases, but I personally would have preferred it had he not given anything whatsoever because giving what he gave when you examine the math, well, it just comes off as being done for optics, and that is likely what it was done for.

But then the argument can be made that the net outcome was positive, does it even matter if it was done for optics? And if you argue it does not, I will not argue the point. However, that's really scummy if it is the case.

That in mind, only Gobert knows his own heart and motivations.

People just love to complain lol

It's a kind gesture that he didn't need to do and he gave it to many people he probably doesn't really know that well.

It's Xmas and it's the thought.

a 50 dollar bill is change. rich people only carry hundreds. it's pathetic that he actually went to the bank to ask for them instead of just grabbing a stack out of his safe and dividing it up

In the core of that question is the notion that he's not giving it out of kindness. But for some other motive.

Even if he gives $100M, there will be people who complains, "why is he giving it publicly? Clearly what he wants is attention and the gift is not out of his good heart."

Which might be true. But who cares.
