how long major records stood.

Career HR record:
Babe Ruth had the record for 53 years
Hank Aaron had the record for 33 years
Barry Bonds currently has the record for 15 years

Career Passing TD record:
Johnny Unitas had the record for 9 years
Fran Tarkenton had the record for 20 years
Dan Marino had the record for 12 years
Brady currently has the record for a couple of years

Career NHL Goals:
Gretsky currently has had the record for 33 years

Most career touchdowns:
Rice has had the record for 28 years

It's interesting to see how long it took for Kareem's record to be broken. Only Ruth's HR record took longer to break.

I'm guessing Gretsky & Rice's records will be very hard to break as well.

Interesting research. I t made me go look at something I dug into long ago. Babe hit 714 in 8,399 AB for 1 HR every 11.76 AB. Aaron hit 755 in 12,364 AB for 1 HR every 16.37 AB. Bonds hit 762 in 9,847 AB for 1 HR every 12.92 AB = so who was the better HR hitter? Babe faced pitchers that stood on a higher mound and probably had fences further from home plate? Aaron ( I think) faced better pitchers? What about Bonds and steroids?

Kareem spent 4 years at UCLA and could not have played in the NBA ( at that time) if he wanted to. IF Kareem had played in the NBA right out of high school = would his record be untouchable?

What's insane is he immediately went on a 16 game hitting streak after that one ended, so he could've potentially pushed it to 73 straight had he managed just one hit in that 57th game.

Fun fact, me and Joe DiMaggio were born in the same city.

Remember following Brewers, Paul Molitor's eventual 39gm hitting streak through USA Today's sports section.

Gotta consider rule changes for QB's and the NBA since 2005 to make it easier to score.
