Let’s say the day after the season ends Silver announces the Las Vegas Whatever’s will begin play next season.

They can choose one of these options to build the team…..

Picks 1 and 2 in the 2023(this year) draft, picks 2 and 3 in 2024, and picks 3 and 4 in 2025

or

Choose one player from each of these duos:

Luka/Jokic

Zion/Morant

All with their current day contracts intact.

For both options the rest of the roster is filled out classic expansion draft style. Teams protect 8 players and leave 7(15 man rosters now) exposed and you can’t take more than one from each team.

Youd get some good unprotected overpaid vets in the pool Im sure.

So what do you do?

Start with the ultimate draft package or a superstar duo and less draft picks going forward?

If you take the players….in what combo do you take them?

and yes for the old-timers I also believe I asked something like this probably 10 years ago, but I think the draft package is a little sweeter with Wembanyama and scoot right there out the gate.

luka with zion would be better than victor and what ifs..

plus its very likely that wembonjovi will have foot problems and miss a bunch of his first 4 or 5 years

They'd be crazy to go with the picks. Jokic/Zion would be unstoppable.

I doubt there’s been many 3 year periods where those draft picks couldn’t land you 3-4 hall of famers you’d just need to be great to see it and take the right ones.

Issue of if you want 4-5 years to put together a winner of maybe…8-9?

Zion's still young, and Jokic should have plenty of good years left. I can't see forgoing a nearly sure thing for a bunch of what ifs.

I don't see you don't take the draft picks, ESP with Wembanyama available with the first pick next year.

I’m not talking ages. Jokic has 4 years then a player option. Luka has 4 years then unrestricted. You’d have to get it together around these guys pretty quickly because all of them would be in that “I need to start winning or I might never….” age and walk.

Superstar duo. You'd get some goods in the expansion draft like Gordon Hayward or Eric Gordon whose teams are tanking and going young. Get some expiring contracts too. And then you pay for some nice free agents in the offseason.

yea i'm going 6 lottery picks. If you start in 2020 you would have jabari, keegan, jalen, mobley, edwards, wiseman. Alright wiseman is a bust but you still pretty much drafted a starting 5 where multiple guys should become stars. You go to year before you get zion, ja, wiseman, lamelo, mobley barnes. That surpasses the 2 star package. Any of the young guys can easily be used to trade for an unhappy star too, you dont need future draft picks when you draft your whole core. Luka/jokic are historic and hard to find in any draft but unless it's prime mj/lebron i'm not taking only 2 stars. In the current league, jokic/zion lets say doesnt even guarantee you a title without a decent supporting cast. Having a super starting 5 is a title however. Add on this year with wembenyama, scoot is very appealing

But they have a decent chance of winning right out of the gate. I'd take my chances with those two.
