View Full Version : Is Kobe the Most Uninspiring Player of All Time?
AlternativeAcc.

Kobe was known for his incredible work ethic, waking up at 4am, and training 10+ hours a day. He is often touted as potentially being the hardest working player of all time.
But that's wherein lies the lack of inspiration... because a guy who dedicated his life to the sport and training is still considered a poor finals performer and only the 15th or so best player ever, despite his genetic advantages over players who rank higher than him.
It's sad to think about. With as hard as he worked, he should be number 1. But he's nowhere close and is responsible for several of the worst meltdowns ever and has a track record of underperforming when it mattered most.
Do you think his training lacked intelligence? Did he fail to incorporate creative training methods? Did he work harder but not smarter?
Why is Kobe so uninspiring?

Which player ranked above Kobe had worse athletic gifts when it comes to basketball? There is no player in the top 10 that's shorter than Kobe. Half of them are centers anyway. The wingplayers and even the sole PG are taller than him.

So you equate athletic gifts with height? Jerry West, Big O, Jordan, they all managed!
Kobe didn't.
Bird and Magic managed without amazing athletic gifts, Kobe didn't

doesn't like 90% of the league wear kobe shoes
lebron is his biggest fan. he grew up wearing kobes shoes, sporting an afro, goes to LA and wears kobe shoes on his first photo day. says he wants to continue his legacy, copies his dunks, gets a kobe tattoo
jayson tatum, Paul George and devin booker saying everything they know about basketball is from kobe
current players voted kobe the 3rd GOAT (practically the same outcome as lebron. off by a hair)
kobe bryant allstar mvp award
mamba mentality
every player current and from the past 40 years saying he's one of the top 1-3 players ever
young people shooting balls of paper yelling "kobe!"
nothing reflects inspiration here. nope

For most players with height comes higher wingspan handsize etc.
Bird was way taller than Kobe. Being tall and a great shooter is the jackpot when it comes to basketball.
Magic was taller and quicker. Jordan was marginally taller, but higher wingspan, bigger hands, quicker, better leaper etc.
I don't think West was really better than Kobe, Oscar? Maybe. He was about as tall as Kobe, but from everything I've seen far more athletic. Kobe had tiny hands relatively speaking.

Meh, as far as athletic gifts he had the most of anyone not named LeBron, Jordan and Shaq
There's far more examples of 6'6 athletic freaks being successful than 6'9 unathletic shooters like Bird
With all the work Kobe put in, he couldve shot like curry or passed better.

He did pretty good I agree. But he should be GOAT with the amount of time he put in. Curry surpassed him while being shorter and less athletic... I guess it proves that working smarter is the key.

Curry
curry will never be ahead of Kobe. he never played defense or was ever the top playmaker for his team outside of maybe 1 year. Kobe was both an all nba defender and his teams top playmaker every year. on top of that he was a way better all around scorer
all curry ever had on Kobe was three pointers
it can't just be about league mvps either. Kobe was complete. curry is perhaps the most incomplete player in the top 15 all time

It tells me you miss the point like usual and don't understand differe types of intelligence
Kobe didn't understand how to work on his game in an intelligent way. He took the same shots over again with no pulse on creativity or film studying to truly reach the next level. He was a low IQ player and Chucker. And guys like Pau run circles around him intellectually off the court. So Kobe is overrated in every way and underachieved.

Can’t believe we’re still pretending Kobe was good on defense. Take Phil Jackson’s words:
“Kobe’s defense, to be accurate, has faltered in recent years, despite his presence on the league’s all-defensive team. The voters have been seduced by his remarkable athleticism and spectacular steals, but he hasn’t played sound, fundamental defense.
"Mesmerized by the ball, he’s gambled too frequently, putting us out of position, forcing rotations that leave a man wide open, and doesn’t keep his feet on the ground.”
Jackson said this in his book “The Last Season: A Team in Search of Its Soul.”
Guy made defensive and all star teams because he played in LA and scowled a lot while gambling for steals. He was rarely, if ever, a top 25 defensive guard/wing in the NBA. He’s not ahead of Curry in any attribute aside bricks

Phil wrote that after kobes rape case when he admitted he took out the frustration of his own daughters rape situation on kobe and even scottie pippen said he was a closet racist. he also cleaned rodmans jizz out of jeanies clam with his tongue. he's always been a bit sour on things. but even that didnt last cause he came back to the Lakers

No doubt he overworked his body. Which led to nagging injuries late in the season. By the time he was 34 his body had enough, was never able to recover from his Achilles injury and had other injury issues after that.
LeBron is a hard worker, but seems pretty smart about it, which is why he is still elite at 38.
