Ever since the three point line was introduced, the NBA has had exactly 5 major dips/spikes in average team scoring.

1980-1995 (16 seasons): 105-110 ppg
1996-1999 (4 seasons): 95-100 ppg
2000-2008 (9 seasons): 90-92 ppg
2009-2016 (8 seasons): 96-100 ppg
2017-2018 (2 seasons): 105 ppg
2019-2023 (5 seasons): 110-113 ppg

more evidence why 2006 kobe was the greatest scorer that ever lived. his 81 turns into 107 points when compared to wilts era. dunno what it would be today.

his 35ppg is also the highest ever when adjusted for pace

The same year he choked a 3-1 lead while quitting in game 7.

I would say 2006 to maybe 2016-ish was the best "blend" of basketball being played. Late 90's/very early 2000's were too defensive/slow and whatever is happening these last few years is way too fast/offensive.
