if (LeBron) really passes Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) in the scoring record, I'm running out of arguments for Michael. What this guy has done is nothing short of incredible.
Players in the league know how insanely difficult it is to surpass Kareem. Kareem has held the all time scoring record for 40 years, Kareem held it forever. This was Kareem's legacy and all everyone talked about with Kareem. 6 MVPs? 6 championships? Who cares.
You need to be one of the most dominant scorers of all time, and do it non stop for 20 years.
All the OG NBA legends will bend the knee when this happens.

Nobody gives a shit about Jordan's yearly scoring titles. Because nobody gives a shit about winning them.
It's like a used condom on the side of the road for NBA achievements. A lot like the all-star MVP. Now all of a sudden you want to pick them all up? No.
I can name the last 10 MVP winners. Without googling it, you won't even be able to name the last 10 scoring title winners. I would be surprised if you even knew the last 3 scoring title winners without googling it.

Many people do. It just doesn't get the attention of all-time scoring because it's so far out of reach that it's become worthless to even speculate about. Like trying to count the number of stars in the galaxy. An impossible task.

Here are the MVP winners off the top of my head from 2012-2021: bron, bron, KD, Curry, Curry, Westbrook, Harden, Giannis, Giannis, Jokic, jokic. I can go back 20+ years.
Nobody can even do last 5 scoring title winners because literally nobody cares. Same with all-star MVPs. I can't name the last 5 all-star mvps without googling and nobody else can either.

In order to qualify for the max contract, the NBA and player's union agreed to:
1) An All-NBA team selection (any of the three teams) in the player's fourth season, or in two of the three seasons between his second and fourth seasons.
2) A Defensive Player of the Year selection in the player's fourth season, or in two of the three seasons between his second and fourth seasons.
3) An MVP selection in any season from the player's second year onward.
No where does it say yearly "scoring title" winner. The NBA and the player's union literally didn't care.

Maybe in your make believe universe nobody cares, but in the real world it does. It's why the NBA, CBS, Bleacher Report, Draft Kings, USA Today, NBC, Yahoo, etc. all have articles regarding it just within the last year.

Just doing it for fun, honest to god not looking this up
Embiid
Curry
Beal
Harden
Harden
Westbrook
Curry
Harden
KD
Melo
Then I think it was KD from 10-12, Wade in '09, no idea in '08, Kobe in '06-'07, Iverson in '05, T-Mac in '03-'04, Iverson in '01-'02, and Shaq in 2000.

it was Bron in 08, his ony year.
Anyway, scoring tites by themsef have very itte meaning.
Its just the raw ppg output.
It doesnt mean you were actuay the best scorer.
Its kinda funny to see MJ stans reign on the output adding seasons up, but for singuar seasons its super meaningfu.

All stars don't matter because there is a fan voting component which waters it down. Even then, LeBron about to be tied with Kareem at #1 for 19. Finals MVP is 1 series in the playoffs achievement.
There is a reason NBA all-defensive team is partially discounted. You can be 1st team all-nba without even being a top 20 player.

I have. I don't find anything special about sticking around for a few years in the twilight of your career averaging ~10 ppg to boost yourself up the all-time points list. I've never thought to myself, "wow, I'm blown away at Carmelo Anthony averaging 13, 15, 13, and 13 ppg the final 4 years of his career to crack the top 10 all-time points leaders." I would have found it more impressive if he won another couple of scoring titles. But that's just me.
