Ten years ago, in the 2012/2013 season, only 11 players averaged at least 20ppg.

Maybe the current numbers go down by end of year, but this is crazy. Hell, guys like Durant/Lebron are averaging career high or near career high scoring per/40 minutes even thought they are definitely not playing their career best ball (especially Lebron).

Honestly we should just look at current individual stats and cut 10% off them (or maybe more). 30ppg is now really 27ppg. 20ppg is now 18ppg and so forth (same with rebs/assists/etc.).

you do have to adjust for both pace and lack of physical defense when comparing across eras. it’s kinda always been like this. for a lot of the 1960’s era you need to adjust their stats down by 25 or 30% because they had around that many extra possessions per game.

Oh wow, thanks for telling us something most of us haven't known yet about the game of basketball.

Giannis just dropped 55 points and I'm not even "surprised" by it. 50 point games should feel special.

NBA Commissioner needs to inject some defense into the current product.

Im so nba'd out

Defense is banned. why so shocked? Scores being 150-120 is what sells apparently....Those old spurs vs pistons series back in 05, 88-90 score games dont anymore i guess.

It is what it is. You just gotta accept it if u like basketball or stop watching

Seeing someone spot up for a three on a fast break is part of the problem.

Have we hit the ceiling in this season or is this going to continue to trend upwards?

No need for you to go all the way back to 2005...even 2015 scoring looks tame compared to what's happened these last three seasons.

I miss it when scoring 30 or 40 wasn't as common and actually meant more. Now it's just a regular thing

Silver will do nothing. But I’m glad the recent ridiculous scoring has led more people to realize how bad he is. I’ve been saying he’s godawful for years.

i’ve wondered before how they account for the fact that they missed a lot more shots when doing possession numbers in games from that far back. Every game today is watched and tracked but 50 or 60 years ago? All they really have is how many shots got taken and they were throwing up some absolute bullshit back then. If you actually sit down and watch a game, it doesn’t seem they are exactly playing faster than they do now just missing a lot more shots which results in guys like wilt gobbling up offensive rebounds, and putting shots back up.

I wonder how many actual times down the court they went. Not that it’s important it’s just something i think about.

It's the NDA ... no defence association.

Maybe taking out the 3-point line may help. :confusedshrug:

The hand check rule killed defenses.
