what was his vert in his prime? he was never that explosive or fast. relies more on size and strength than athleticism..

clear agenda on your part though.

Post one best athletes in NBA history list that doesn't have LeBron on it. Should be easy if you're not sure that others would agree.

Size and strength IS athleticism in basketball.

Where the hell is the guy who just dropped 71? :biggums:

They don't know what they word athletic means. They think it only means running fast and jumping high.

According to the dictionary, "Physically active and strong; good at athletics or sports."

Therefore, the best players are, by definition, the most athletic.

The answer depends on whether you think skill plays a part into athleticism. Cause feats of athleticism takes a lot of skill. It takes balance, strength, coordination, stability, practice, experience, etc to dunk a basketball like Shawn Kemp.

It is difficult to determine who the most athletic NBA player of all time is, as there have been many talented and athletic players throughout the history of the league. Some of the most athletic players in NBA history include:

Michael Jordan: Jordan was known for his incredible physical abilities, including his strength, speed, and jumping ability. He was a dominant force on the court and is widely considered one of the greatest players in NBA history.

LeBron James: Like Jordan, LeBron is known for his strength, speed, and agility. He has consistently been one of the most physically gifted players in the league throughout his career.

Julius Erving: Dr. J, as he was known, was known for his impressive athletic ability and is often credited with popularizing the slam dunk.

Darryl Dawkins: Dawkins, also known as "Chocolate Thunder," was known for his powerful dunks and impressive physical strength.

Clyde Drexler: Drexler, also known as "The Glide," was known for his impressive speed and leaping ability.

LeBron James: Known for his strength, speed, and agility, LeBron is considered one of the most physically gifted players in the league.

Russell Westbrook: Westbrook is known for his explosiveness and ability to cover ground quickly on the court.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Giannis, also known as the "Greek Freak," is known for his impressive physical abilities, including his speed, strength, and coordination.

Ben Simmons: Simmons is a versatile player known for his quickness and agility, as well as his ability to play multiple positions on the court.

Zion Williamson: Williamson has already made a name for himself with his impressive physical skills, including his strength, speed, and jumping ability.

Again, it is difficult to say definitively who the most athletic player of all time is, as different players excel in different areas of athleticism.

Lebron had a 44 inches vertical leap in his prime. Here is Nike measuring his vertical at 40'3"

Elite athletes have coordination/speed/quick/strength/ natural ability.

You are not going to see guys like Lebron that are built like 4/3 DE/Tight Ends running 4.6, jumping 38-40 inches in the air, and also translate that to finishing either hand at the rim in traffic over players.

You aren't going to see lanky guys like Giannis easily take you off the dribble and finish over and through you.

When borderline elite athletes like Wade and Kobe tell you how freakish someone is athletically(bron, shaq) than they are seeing things in practice we aren't privvy to.

My elite list would be...

1. Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook
2. MJ, Tracy Mcgrady(Orlando)
3. Lebron James, Giannis(He's really a 3 to me)
4. Subjective, KG and AD aren't crazy strong but are so much more fluid than Kemp, Blake Griffin, not to mention Shawn Kemp
5. Shaq. Didn't see Wilt play.

As far as I can tell, and I will qualify my answer by mentioning my archives of basketball go back to the 1950's and I really enjoy studying all the athletes from NBA history so I actually can comb through 50's to present day news archives included on athletic accolades and I think Wilt and LeBron could physically humble and outclass most other NBA players that have ever played in the widest variety of athletics necessary for other real world sports with Wilt being 1a and LeBron being 1b.

The ability to physically impose one's will over other athletes in the most amount of competitions is how I rank. The man among boys vibe. Especially if the athletic competitions involve physicality I think Wilt first, then LeBron would be near or at the top in the top 6 important traits (IMO) for athletics. (There should be 7, athletics intelligence, but they both are top tier there as well). They're both extremely fast - maybe not fastest NBA players of all time but in the top 98 some percentile no question about it. They're agile/have great body control - I don't even mean just for their size but for each of their respective sizes (ht/wt combo) they are 99 percentile in body control. That's actually the only category where either of them hold a backseat to smaller guys. Physics don't allow big players to move as quickly as small ones but again they are in the 99 percentile of their size class and their size class overmatches them against smaller athletes in most fields anyways. They're insanely strong (Wilt strongest ever candidate) plus they're bigger than average NBA players and again Wilt is in the top 1% of the 1% on that mark as well. They also can jump out the gym in their primes, and this is at insane weights of 260 and 290 respectively. That total amount of attributes combined is very difficult to find. Most other NBA athletes might even have more of some of those individual things in a vacuum and many of you might feel other players would make better specific athletes at your favorite sports in question but in the end they probably only have just 2 or 3 or 4 or even 'just' 5 of the collective 6 traits mentioned. Wilt and LeBron have them all. Wilt is the greatest athlete in NBA history by that criteria and I think LeBron is number 2. Other peoples criteria can be different of course. Many might argue Shaq based on his greater bullying ability with his size, but he'd get outrun/jumped in too many types of sports. The smaller guys would get outbullied in too many types of sports, etc.
