View Full Version : Kevin Durant is the most skilled scorer ever. Not MJ or Kobe

This is a discussion I was recently having with some of my friends. When you really think about it, KD might actually be THE most skilled scorer ever. He can score from literally anywhere, and can do it in any way.

Whether is a fadeaway jumper from the mid-range, or a crossover pull-up 3 pointer, or a jumpshot with a defender all up in his face, KD can and will make that shot. He's one of the few guys in history where he can shoot any shot he wants and you automatically think "Yeah, that's going in"

What really makes him stand out is his ridiculous efficiency. I mean you're talking about a guy who shoots some of the toughest shots and still manages to shoot well over 50% from the field. Kobe, as great as he was, doesn't come anywhere near KD in terms of efficiency.

As a 3 point shooter, KD has MJ and Kobe beat. Combine that with his ball-handling, ability to move like a guard, his size, IQ, and insane shooting ability from anywhere inside the arc, and you can see why someone would call him the most skilled scorer ever.

He's up there, but I can't call him the most skilled scorer ever. He has MJ beat as a three point shooter, but Jordan was a better finisher at the rim.

That man is not a more skilled scorer than embiid you are smoking crack

He just gets shorter ppl to switch off on him and shoots over them. Embiid sprays anyone down…guards, wings, and bigs….#splash

And embiid doesn’t call for screens….anyone can get it! he doesn’t target the weak or hunt match ups. Something Kevin Durant can’t relate too

KD averaged 30 twice in his life. Embiid is about to average 30 in back to back years while playing with the best pure scorer of his era. He made the best scorer of his era take a backseat….he’s that good at scoring

He's not even more skilled than McGrady.

He plays in a soft era. He'd be handled a lot easier back in the day because he's not strong or physically solid.

He's not robust like LeBron is.

While i agree to your points, i think the only blemish i can point out of his offense is driving to the hoop. Not saying he doesn't have one but if he had that Giannis aggressive approach combined with great shooting touch then he'll be the perfect weapon

For his size, well, it's impressive to say the least.

He's the most skilled for his height. Most skilled ever is some guy like Kyrie Irving or Steph Curry. He might be the best perimeter scorer ever but he's not as competitive and driven as Jordan was so he was never better than peak MJ and never will be.

Stop it. He's light years more efficient than T-Mac was

Not true, Curry's not elite at anything outside of shooting and moving without the ball. Kyrie has handles and guard scoring skills but he's not skilled at things like defense, rebounding, posting-up etc.

Yes some of those lack of things are functions of their size, but they are skills they are deficient at nonetheless.

What do defense and rebounding have to do with scoring? Read the thread title again, genius.

Agreed. He flourishes only when there are some bonafide all-stars surrounding him who are willing to make moving screens. Still, despite being capable of making some impact, he's not clutch at all and his defense need some work. The 2021 play-in game between the warriors and the lakers is an evidence of this when he let LeKong shoot over him in the closing seconds of the game. That time when the dubs also became the first biggest victims of the play-in tourney.

This man has the touch of Kobe/jordan or can just maul you like shaq….come on now…..

Except he shoots fts 30% higher than shaq. The only thing stopping him is an injury every single damn year in the playoffs.

Stop it. He's light years more efficient than T-Mac was

Yes...but comparing player efficiencies of early 2000s wings and 2020 wings based on defensive rules of the day isn't apples to apples, it's like apples to......eggplant. KD is great in any era but that 2000-2004 period would have dropped his efficiency numbers, it's expressly why the league opened up the perimeter in 2005. Tmac on the other hand( pre-injury) would have feasted in this era. Not saying any of that to say KD still generally wouldn't be better if they played in the same era, but the leagues they played in are worlds apart defensively.
