Brown : 27/7/3
Harden: 21/6/11

Brown worlds better shooting efficiency and harden edge on passing. Thoughts?

they wanted to give brown a break he’s still sore from getting dingo’d so hard last year

Fans can watch Brown all they want late in the playoffs.

This time of year belongs to Harden.

My thoughts are that I don't give a fvck

The all star shit needs to be canned...nothing but an empty ego stroke for low iq fans to participate in

Jaylen Brown is around Zach Lavine or CJ Mccollum level. He's way below Harden.

Harden could most likely score more than he does so quoting ppg is a little unfair but that is with Brown being an infinitely better defender.

If it were still 2019.

From a statistical standpoint without full context and ignoring defense, 8 assists > 1 rebound and 6 points.

Harden is averaging 22/7/11 on 60%TS and with only 3.5 TO, which is the lowest season TO average for him since his last year in OKC. He's clearly better than Jaylen Brown and has been getting disrespected all season tbh.

And he deserves to

Harden has embraced his role as a true point guard and is playing winning basketball, he's also playing the best defense of his career this year

He can play point guard on offense because he's a better dribble and passer. But there is more to basketball than those two aspects. Brown being just as good a scorer of not better and far ahead as a defensive player matters.

If it were still 2019.

If it were 2019 Harden would be more in current Luka level. He's way worse nowadays.

You said Jaylen is 'way worse' than Harden. That statement would be true if you were comparing 2019 Harden and 2023 Jaylen. It's not true if you are comparing 2023 Harden with 2023 Jaylen.

I guess different opinion.

Off the top of my head if we're ranking them they're probably both lower top 15-20. There's not enough separation there for one to be 'way worse' than the other but as you said, different opinions et all.

Of course there is.

Actually I have to correct myself and say that Brown deserves it over Harden because he's played in 40 games compared to Harden's 25, that's too big of a gap and should be taken into account.

Harden's BPM & Raptor numbers are way above Jaylen's though and offensively he's just a superior player in terms of skill. If they had both played a similar number of games I'd have given it to James.

In this case it's not an either/or because they both should ( and will) make the team as subs. Ultimately it doesn't matter in terms of who ends up with more votes, because Kyrie and Mitchell are clearly going to be the starting backcourt.

What is it about Jaylen that the advanced numbers hate so much? He's pretty efficient, well above average defensively, rebounds well for his position.

I don't understand why he's 60th in RAPTOR, .111 WS/48, 1.3 BPM.

It's weird.

You would have to dissect the math formula to really know but watching him I can tell you that he's the king of two point baskets, midrange and short jumpers. Neither he nor Tatum is shooting the three especially well this year. If the advanced stat factors plus/minus he will also be hurt by being the guy that has the most minutes playing without Tatum.

This is pretty simple: all star voting is largely a popularity contest, and Harden's a bigger name. Not surprised he'd come out ahead in voting.

Exactly. As I said earlier, even if Jaylen was inarguably better I feel like the casual NBA fan would vote Harden first out of habit as long as he's producing an all-star statline.

This part probably has the most to do with it then. If he's getting more of the 2nd unit minutes then it won't look as good.

besides what rmwg said, the plus minus metrics have never loved him on defense(raptor, epm). They account for brown playing without tatum, it's not like raw +/-. Box score stuff like bpm, the lack of assists and kind of high to does hurt him.
