I remember this was a common criticism -- how he'd steal rebounds from his teammates. I came across an interesting stat from the 2018-2019 season. It shows that OKC was far more efficient in transition when Russell got the defensive rebound.

According to Jeff Siegel, OKC is at 1.14 points per pos (PPP) when Russ grabs it and 0.96 when he doesn't.

Westbrook's defensive rebounding game supercharged OKC's transition offense. Makes sense. Can start the fastbreak much... faster. No need to waste time finding the ball first.

How's your Sunday morning deep-dive on Russell westbrook statistics? Correlation doesn't imply causation and there's not enough data to establish a clear trend.

Common sense should tell you that the break is jumpstarted when a fast pg has the ball immediately instead of having to get it from a big.
