Without qualifiers. Without excuses that make you less wrong. I don’t want your additional context. Just tell us something you said/believed that turned out to be incorrect and own it.

I’ll start.

Im nearly sure I said Kevin Durant was gonna be between Keith Vanhorn and Rashard Lewis.

There was a point guard whose name began with the letter "M" from UConn that I would have drafted over Rondo. I can't even remember his name.

Years ago I emphatically insisted Lebron would not become a 10 time conference champion, a billionaire, the league’s all time leading scorer, and the most universally loved and respected athlete in human history.

I was wrong.

I remember thinking there was zero percent chance LeBron would ever come close to living up to the hype he was receiving in high school. I didn’t understand why this high school kid was getting such over the top coverage, and that once he did make the league he’d be, at best, a fringe all-star.

I also thought after 2019 Curry would never win FMVP the rest of his career.

"If Michael Porter Jr stays healthy he'll be the prize of the 2018 draft". Which, I honestly didn't even really go out on a limb on. You're telling me if a super skilled and quick 6'10 guy can stay healthy he'll be good at basketball? get outta here.

I thought Andre Drummond would be an Amare type. He just didn't seem to have the motor back in college to be a 14 rpg guy, and Amare didn't have a midrange jumper until about year 3 of his career. Can't tell if he had a j in high school or not since, either way, dude dunked everything and didn't need it.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think J.J. Redick would have a better career than Adam Morrison. I remember the big debate between those players in college and thought Morrison would be a better pro.

I wanted Adam Morrison to be the next Bird.

I wanted Adam Morrison to be the next Bird.I never got the Bird comparisons. I thought he'd be like a very watered down version of Kevin Durant(think like 22 ppg), at least offensively, but I guess we didn't have KD back then to compare him to.

Small with very short arms. I didn't think his game would translate that well to the NBA. I thought his lack of size would be a significant handicap.

In middle school, I genuinely believed that the following players would be perennial all stars in the hall of Fame with multiple titles each:

Tracey McGrady
Allen Iverson

And I was sure that every single title Duncan won would be his last, and that the rings he did win were flukes.

On draft night, I thought my Bulls made a huge mistake, and should have drafted Michael Beasley instead of Derrick Rose.

I thought Dante Exum would be really damn good.

Player developments always catch me off guard.

For example the players who depend on athleticism don't really stand out until a few seasons into league. It's why 2023 Ja Morant looks like most athletic point guard in NBA history but didn't look half as athletic his rookie season. It's also probably why people were caught off guard by Lebron's greatness.

I thought the Celtics should have kept Delonte West instead of Rondo. I thought Rondo having the ball in his hands so much was not the best path forward for a team with Pierce, Allen, and KG on it. I wanted the ball in those guys' hands instead and thought West would be a tough roleplayer and knock down shooter to complement their stars.

I actually think it's true that those Celtics teams would have been better without Rondo and that he was an overrated point guard in general. There were whole quarters when KG and Ray were nothing more than spot-up shooters, meanwhile everything had to funnel through this ponderous non-shooter who thought he was the most important player on the team.

But obviously the Delonte West part did not age well.

Also: I'm pretty sure I thought both KD and Adam Morrison would become Antawn Jamison in terms of impact. I never saw it coming that KD would be able to handle the ball that well against pros; I thought he was just advanced and going up against physically inferior competition. Turns out he was a top-10 all-timer from almost the moment he stepped foot in the NBA. oh well. :/

When I first joined ISH in 2014, I'd go back and forth with Milbuck about Giannis, the Rockets, and all things Harden. I'm sure anyone who was here regularly around that time remembers the beef we had

Anyway, because I used to hate Milbuck, I would call Giannis trash and would say that he would amount to nothing more than a role player. To be fair, no one could've predicted how good he'd become. I remember Milbuck making a thread saying that Giannis had MVP and ATG-level potential, and I just spammed the thread with laughing gifs. Crazy how he predicted that in 2014-15.

I turned out to be so so wrong about Giannis. I'm glad I was though because his story is great and he truly is an ATG player.

I was sold on Giannis in a thread made by Euroleague when Giannis was only like 17. It was the weirdest thing because usually people become huge fans of players they've predicted right, but Euroleague straight up turned on him when Giannis was becoming a respectable NBA player in his second or third year.

Coming out of college I thought DMC was going to be a dominant hall of famer.

I thought Anthony Randolph was going to be the next big thing after some flashes of greatness and then a dominant summer league. (This was a bit out of desperation because the Warriors were so bad for so long though)

I was hyped on warriors landing Wiseman. Thought he was going to be at least a poor man’s david robinson.

This wasn’t egregious but I thought Derrick Rose was a bit overrated at first but he put on some dominant performances before he got injured and it changed my mind.

Ties into the Wiseman thing but I wasnt very high on Lamelo. I want to say at the time that I would have picked Wiseman over him even though it would have been close.

I thought Haliburton was a great pick where he was drafted at first but didn’t know he would be this good.
