View Full Version : Has anyone ever had such a drop off in FT% like Westbrook has?

First 9 years in the NBA he was a 82% FT shooter
The last 6 years he has been a 69% FT shooter, 66% the last 3 years.
I'm trying to think of another player who had a significant drop off, but can't. Some players usually get better at free throws as they age.
His good FT% was what allowed him to remain relatively efficient in his prime. Without that, he's missing a huge part of his game. Coupled with the decline in athleticism and midrange shooting and you get the disaster he is today.

He's blind as a bat. I had heard he was going to start wearing glasses this season, but for some reason he doesn't seem to want to do it.

There was this player who was teammates with Rick Barry, he was an atrocious FT shooter, like in the 50-60% range, he started working with Rick Barry one offseason and then became a 75% FT% shooter or something like that with the underhand FT style Barry shot. I remember reading a story like that years ago, forgot the players name. BRB.

Nick Anderson had a huge drop off in his FT%. He was never a good FT shooter, but he went from averaging 70% the first 7 years of his career to 57% over the final 6, including a staggering 40% at one point. That FT meltdown in the Finals completely ruined his confidence.

“I should have thought of Rick’s free throws, too, because George Johnson, who couldn’t shoot free throws, worked with Rick and began shooting underhanded,” Barnett said of the former Warriors backup center on their first championship team.
Johnson’s transformation was astonishing. He went from making 41.2 percent of his free throws as a rookie while using a conventional style to shooting 81 percent from the line at the end of his career while using the “granny shot.”

I don't know if it's a confidence thing or not but he really is an atrocious shooter now. He was always iffy but his midrange was aight. It's been broken, ever since his MVP year. I remember him having some sort of injury the first year with PG... and he's never been the same since. He was decent on the Rockets but dropped off since. I remember knowing he was gonna make all 3 when Chris Paul fouled him at the end of a playoff game.

His pull up mid-range shot used to be money in OKC, now if he attempts a jumper I cringe.

It's gotta be the era, he sees everyone hitting 3s and in Houston he was taught midrange is bad so quit practicing and now hes the worst shooter as a guard in the league.

Hard to believe he's only 26. Dude looks done out there. This is why I said Philly won the trade, Harden for all his faults is way more proven.

Lebron's 3-pt % has dropped 6% from last year. Must be the LeShrivel effect.
