Any of these guys but gobert and I think luka can win a title this year. Paul George is the perfect teammate of the ones you listed. He's imo the perfect complimentary star to a ball dominant guy or a dominant big. Mavs would make noise in the playoffs even with a mediocre 2nd star(like threaten for the conference finals). Someone like lavine or jerami grant or brunson or porzingis. Luka is that good but also there are no superteams this year and a lot of parity. Denver is one of the best teams in the league their 2nd best player is aaron gordon who should get all star consideration but isnt really a 2nd star.

No serious person can think this … they basically have a roster of bench players and complimentary parts.

Take the “contenders” and give him the second best player on any of those teams, and the Mavs cruise to a title.

They got to the WCF last year with Jalen Brunson.

Give him a healthy Anthony Davis, and they cruise to a title.

Luka needs two very consistent spot up shooters , a wing that can slash , and a 5 that boards , weak side defense and can pass over the top.

He really needs a whole team built around him so he may average 30ppg , but his teammates are high volume scorers as well as defenders.
It is his weakness - defense.

The guy averaged 38/8/13 over those final 2 games, including 45/14 in Game 7, against a team much better than his, so acting like he didn't do his part or that loss falls on him is honestly moronic.

And Brunson played well, so no knock on him, but after a monster first round series he averaged a pretty pedestrian, for 2nd option standards, 18 ppg for the rest of the playoffs.

They beat the 1 seed. Outliers dont exist on an individual level.

In the 2 years before, he put up historica numbers on the Cippers.

He aso was never "smacked out of the first round", he massivey overachieved taking a oaded Cippers team to 7 games and game 7 was fairy cose.

Yeah Luka has been a beast in the playoffs. He has stepped up his game consistently.

It's not just they need one star player. They need some good role players. They have some really garbage player getting minutes.

Like, if they swap Tim Hardaway Jr for Al Horford, they'd be infinitely better.

Ideal addition for the Mavs IMO would be a Brook Lopez/Al Horford type who can score and defend from the five. Wood and Kleber at the 4 and then DFS, Luka and Dinwiddie to round it out.

Altho if they can make a move at the deadline that brings in a starting caliber sg and shift Dinwiddie to the bench, thats ideal. They could still have Widdie on the floor at the end of games in place of DFS, but they really need to stagger his minutes with Luka’s more, I think Dinwiddie runs the second unit better than he plays off Luka with the first.

Jaylen brown wasn’t a great 2nd option last year but he’s better this year. Look at the rest of bostons team lol. They got 5 guys outside Tatum brown who could be the 3rd best player on the mavs or better. The 6th guy grant Williams is a starter on most teams in the league
