Just saw that crops are down in Florida, one of the worst in decades. Prices are going to skyrocket. Currently the avg. cost for a gallon is $6.27

I gave up OJ about 5yrs ago. Too much sugar in it

In a couple of decades the US probably will be getting very little OJ from Florida due to the Chinese bacteria which causes Greening disease. Brazil already makes up to 10x more orange juice than Florida. Mexico is starting to crank out OJ too.

Unless a cultivar can be developed that's immune to the disease and/or repels it's carrier, Florida orange juice will be a thing of the past. Just like banana producers had to replace the Gros Michel with our current Cavendish because of disease, orange juice producers will have to replace the Valencia with something else. Difference is a banana can start to produce fruit in a year and it takes an orange tree around 6 years to start putting on enough fruit to be worth picking.

California already produces more oranges than Florida but most of them are for the table, not juice.

Basically get ready to say goodbye by to Florida orange juice soon

Most FL OJ is stored in giant vats with Nitrogen on top to keep it from spoiling. It’s kind of a shiite product.

So they need more stimulus checks to address these issues.

Anyone tried OJ in Europe?

I heard it tastes much better.

Something having to do with the oranges they use being closer to the original cultivars in descendance.

Could just be because you can get it fresh squeezed much easier.

Most of the OJ in Europe comes from Brazil and to a lesser degree the US. Spain, like California in the US, produces most of the table citrus.

Best citrus cultivars are almost all from Japan. Those boys take their citrus seriously

Many come from UC Riverside in SoCal. Riverside was the center of US production for a long time.

Orange juice aka diabetes juice is insanely overrated. Much better options out there that not only taste better but also have wayyyy less sugar

Almost everything tastes better in Europe. Tomatoes from a common Italian street market might as well be an entirely different fruit from the tomatoes you buy at USA supermarkets.

The only places in the USA that have produce that is even remotely comparable to high quality European produce is small farmers markets

Orange juice is just a big scam anyway. Even freshly squeezed stuff is unhealthy for you. Just pure sugar with no fiber.

Major corporations have their hands into almost every sector of the food market to make profit. They don't care about your health. Don't like soda? That's okay you can drink a "healthy" juice that's full of sugar that Pepsi or Coke own. Don't like soda or juice? That's okay you can drink their crap reverse osmosis purified water that is highly acidic versus regular tap water because they produce it in the same plants as their soda and they strip any minerals or electrolytes from it.

:oldlol:

Did you really just compare fresh squeezed orange juice to pepsi and coke because they all have "sugar"? Show me a single obese person who put on all their weight by drinking too much fresh squeezed fruit juice. You do realize there are multiple types of sugar and corn derived fructose is not the same as natural sucrose and glucose?

LMAO at thinking reverse osmosis is bad for you because its slightly more acidic than tap water... go ahead and keep drinking your unfiltered city tap water, no doubt its been doing wonders for you.

Yeah and we carbonate beers with both nitrogen and carbon dioxide - so what?
