Usually when a player plays a lot of minutes, he'll rack up a lot of fouls too.

Who's #1 in minutes played? Kareem. Who's #1 in personal fouls? Kareem.

Who's #2 in minutes played? Karl Malone. Who's #2 in personal fouls? Karl Malone.

Lebron is currently #3 in minutes played. You'd expect he'd be in the top 10 for fouls. Nope. Top 50? Nope. Top 100? Nope, not even top 150.

This is a guy who used to do chasedown blocks and pretty good defense to say the least.

Thats amazing.

His defense is too clean.

He has always been exceptional at keeping his feet on defense and not going for fakes. Makes it harder for players to draw a foul out of him.

Also elite at getting set and taking the charge rather than getting called for the block.

He hasn’t played consistent defense in close to 10 years.

And imagine if they called his offensive fouls.

Malone also played for a coach who's defensive strategy revolved around fouling. They usually led the league under him

It's a combination of

1) Sandbagging and being a statue on defense.

2) Never getting called when he does foul.

Nah. Go watch him on D. Even from back when he was a DPOY candidate. He is elite at defending legally and is rarely baited into fouling by, for example, biting at fakes.

Not everyone fouls a lot. I remember this came up so long ago Deng was still on the Bulls and it turned out he had gone like 500 games without fouling out when someone was complaining Lebron never did. Tayshaun Prince might also have had a good run. Can’t remember for sure.

A few players played 800-1000 games and never fouled out. Wilt I think is the only tocnever do it having played that much.

Having checked…at least 7 people have played over 900 games in a row without fouling out. Jamal Crawford made it over 1300 games. And 4 people who played for Pop on the spurs went over 800.

Jimmy Butler, Andre Iguodala and Kawhi all rarely foul either, it's kind of what elite perimeter defenders do but don't tell that to the idiots here. Butler fouls even less than LeBron in fact.

Looked up Tayshaun Prince as he was mentioned and he makes LeBron look like a foul-happy guy :lol

1.2 fouls per game careeer :biggums: (1.4 per 36). He didn't get many steals, so probably because he didn't hack or reach basically ever. LeBron is somewhat similar in that he basically never goes for pump fakes and often contests without leaving his feet. This is why LeBron has never been a great shot blocker despite his freakish athleticism. He is very disciplined and does not take risks defensively very often, hence he doesn't commit fouls.

I don't think that's it. He's never really accumulated a lot of fouls and I think that's because he's always been a superior help defender than man defender. LeBron did the majority of his defense on the perimeter as opposed to guys like Kareem or Malone that were in the post where you had a crowd of big men in an era that was much more physical down low.

LeBron hasn’t played consistent defense since 2014.

Hasn’t played good defense since 2013.

And he really only played good defense from 2011 - 2013. With all that help offensively and especially defensively energy and production wise from prime D-Wade and Bosh.

2004 - 2010 was okay defensively.

Post 2015 and def past 2017 has been dog shit nonexistent defensively. That’s why his teams don’t win.

Lebron doesn't fall for pumpfakes and redirects guys naturally being stronger. Watch him play defense in his prime and kawhi ... kawhi steals faster but they both are like a wall and wear guys down

Right but that's not really relevant. From 2004-14, LeBron averaged 1.9 fouls a game. That's not a lot, really.

LeBron was a solid defender in 2020. Also played great defense in the '16 Finals.

Why are you even responding to such a troll post? LeBron was somehow “ok” at defense in a hear he finished second in DPOY (2009)

I’m pretty sure all impact stats rate LeBron as a good to great defender for the majority of his career. Even this year he’s ranked highly in defensive EPM which is the most accurate impact stat.
