I wasn't sure I believed it until I watched the '77 WCF between LA and Portland. Jerry West was coaching for the Lakers - his arms looked comically long in his suit.

West with his long arms would steal the ball away so many times from the other team

Jerry West drops 29 points, 7 assists, and 9 steals against the Celtics.

(Nov 20, 1968)

Jerry West records 6 steals against the Hawks.

(Jan 31, 1970)

If steals were officially recorded in the 60s I have no doubt Jerry West would be the all time steals leader by a mile.

As his steal data is about as impressive as Wilt’s block data!

The record for most steals in a game since 73-74 is 11.

Here are the players before that season who got more:

Tom Gola (1/12/1960) vs STL: 13
Jerry West (1/17/1968) vs PHI: 12
Jerry West (1/21/1969) vs MIL: 12
Jerry West (4/7/1970) vs PHO: 12
Jerry West (3/25/1973) vs SEA: 12
